I have been looked after by Dr. S Gibson, Renal Consultant at Royal Preston Hospital, Lancashire for 5 years following my own diagnosis with vasculitis (MPA) . I was hospitalised for a month and had all the usual treatment( Steroids ,cyclophosphamide, plasma exchange transfusion ) and follow up. Throughout all this time this consultant doctor was fantastic , always upbeat and encouraging but totally honest. A really good doctor. He is now retiring . We have all worn him out ! He travels between Preston,Lancaster ,Kendal and Barrow hospitals and must have quite a few patients like me with vasculits and maybe other renal conditions. I wonder we could organise a get together( maybe dinner ) for him some time after Christmas and the New Year to say our own thanks as his former patients. Please contact me if you are interested so we can discuss this further and cascade this to others you may know who have received care from him. Maggie20

Excellent ! Okay, lets see how many others reply to this and leave their contact names . I will be in touch with you after the New Year .

Hi Maggie20, although I am not a patient of Dr Gibson I just wanted to say "he must be one hell of a good guy" and he deserves a a great big thank you from his patients. I am sure my niece (Consultant Rheumy at Preston) knows him...she has an interest in vasculitis. You know not many people thank their retiring Docs in such a way...but I personally think it is important (being a retired nursing sister myself...I have WG 1990) He will be 'tickled pink' I am sure and enjoy whatever you organise for him. What a lovely gesture...good luck xx Sheila
