just for information I have been offered by my GP practice Shingrix as my partner is severely immune suppressed . I am due a shingles vaccine as 70 !
I had never thought of this to be honest and thought it was worth sharing with others.

Our GP Surgery offered us the Shingles vaccines, last year I think it was. As I'm the immune suppressed one I was given Shingrix in two doses, but my husband was able to have the Zostavax in one dose.
my understanding is that because I live with a immune suppressed person I needed a non live vaccine . I am not immune suppressed. I thought Zostavax was a live vaccine .
You're right, Zostavax is a live vaccine, and is suitable for healthy people. We took what we were offered at the time. In the light of what you have said, I asked my husband why anyone not immune suppressed would be given Shingrix when he wasn't. He suggested that they may have taken the precaution because you are living with a more severely immune suppressed person than me. I didn't know this. You learn something new every day.
I am immune suppressed, not eligible yet for the vaccine but hubby is. GP offered the live vaccine. My own consultant wrote to GP to say hubby should have the non live to be sure to protect me. Surgery still wont give him the non live. He's not had it done yet 🙄
This also applies to children given the live flu vaccine.
my hubby was given the live vaccine, even though I must have the Shinglix ! I never gave it a thought x
My husband had the live vaccine a couple of weeks ago (he is "normal", I'm immunosuppressed). We've had no problems at all. He did keep an eye out for any effusions from the site of the vaccination and was going to ensure that nothing touched me, but in fact there were no effusions and I've been fine.
Update - saw nurse at GP for my monthly bloods. Showed her consultant letter advice, hubby now goes for the non live next Friday 3rd March after her overriding the GP's decision as letter was from a consultant.Success!
There're some lucky people around. I'm immunosuppressed but can't have the Shinglix on the NHS because I'm 84 yrs old.
