I have painful episodes which render me paralysed for minutes. It starts with a thumping back pain which pulses in time with my heart beat. Then it works up my back to shoulders and up my neck to my skull. It’s so painful I’m bent double in pain. Interestingly my brother gets it too. Any ideas?

Thumping back pain
Hi Singr! I had a similar experience where I had a excruciating thumping pain at the base of my spine. This was only when I was receiving my Treatment which was Rituximab but it wasn’t that it was the Steriods they pumped into me before hand. Once it had finished the throbbing pain stopped. So I’m wondering if your on any Steriods at all and is the pain at the base of your spine?? To me it’s an aggravated nerve end but I’m no Doctor just guessing. I did a lot of exercises which pretty much cured it. I’d maybe speak to your GP, tell him the issues your having and ask to be referred to a Physiotherapist and hopefully they will give you exercises to stop the pain. Hope it works xx

Thanks for that. What is MPA MPO?
Hi
I too got back pain for months after being diagnosed with GPA which went away when I went into remission, however returned when I had a relapse. I put it down to muscle spasms.
