Dear Essex-jill,

Not lost overnight exactly but, without being too crude-well maybe a bit- f..k me yes! I have only about twelve, or so, teeth left in my mouth and two of them are, at least in part, falsies! I know that this IS a small price to pay for my life-some of the drugs I take/took are, known to be, 'murder' on the teeth. I don't know about your particular position, regarding medications, but I do strongly suspect a probable link. Now I'm not prying, really I'm not, but can you tell me a little more about your condition please. It, may well, help me/us offer you some more helpful advice. As a matter of fact I had two more teeth removed, at Ipswich Hospital, about two weeks ago. So even more holes now!

Before I go any further there is one very, very important 'thing' that I must do.....Welcome Jill to 'our' group/forum you will find that we don't bite, at least, not hard anyway! You will find us a 'friendly' lot with, I can absolutely assure you, only the best of intentions. The group was founded by John & Susan Mills, who also 'run' Vasculitis UK. John has Wieners Granulosis (I think that is the right spelling-my spell check doesn't know it). Susan 'posts' here as 'Suzym2u' though John often reads the posts himself, in any event. Both can be contacted through Vasculitis UK and yes I do, very strongly, recommend that you visit this website yourself.

Anyway look forward to hearing from you Jill and, once again, welcome.

Very best wishes AndrewT

Hi Andrew. Thank you for your reply.

I have been a member of the group since its early days and find it very helpful and supportive. I was diagnosed over 15 years ago with Wegeners, affecting my nose ( I now have Saddle Nose Deformity ) I have been on all the usual medications over the years but I have Rutiximab infusions every 6 months at Addenbrookes. I have been having the infusions for the past 5 years or more and it's my ' wonder drug' I'am not on any other medication for Vasculitis, but lots of drugs for my kidney failure. My next infusion is due in April. I have been experiencing very sensitive teeth and only visited the dentist 2 weeks ago and was prescribed Duraphat to help. But over the weekend the pain got worse and I then felt the tooth was lose. I had it removed today.

I'm sorry to hear you've had more teeth removed and send best wishes to you.

I am afraid the Vasculitis can affect the soft tissues (gums) and the Prednisolone can affect the bone supporting the tooth. This In turn can make a tooth loose. Many have found Duraphat helpful. Colgate Total is also recommended by many dentists too. Good oral hygiene is essential. This is from the website if it helps at all. vasculitis.org.uk/living-wi...
