Considering this option just wondered what sort of dose is required as I've been on 60mcg per day plus t4

No-one can advise on dose as each person's response to meds is different. What you have to do if still having symptoms is increase gradually (you would have to choose T3 or T4 seeing you are taking both) until you feel better and if you take a bit too much lower or miss next day's dose.

I only improved when I stopped T4 and took T3 alone but others succeed on your method.

when I stopped NDT (which contains T4 and T3) my doctor asked me to take whatever amount of T3 I was already taking (in NDT there is 9mcg per grain) then increase by 10mcg every week until I reached a set amount he told me (and to stop/reduce if any adverse effects)

Therefore you would be ok to take what you are already taking and increase slowly, however the amount to increase to is what we cannot advise like Shaws said :)
