hello, can you tell me how my bloods look? On NDT 1 3/4 am 1 1/2 pm. All well except constant hair loss which is really worrying me now. I will be doing my hormones next month so will add them.

When did you take your last dose of NDT before this test?

B12 is good.

Vit d is a little on the high side. You could afford to drop your dose slightly. Vitamin D should be around 100 - 150.

What was ferritin & folate?

I took my afternoon ndt 3pm then nothing till my blood test fasting 7.30 am My vit D was low before so I have been upping that as got long term hair loss. I want to know if I should change my dose as my hair is so thin I can’t wear it down anymore.

Folate is good.

Ferritin looks good but it possible to have high ferritin and low iron. Recommend getting an iron panel run if you have hair loss.

Free T3 (fT3) 5.6 pmol/L (3.1 - 6.8) 67.6%

So this result is a false low as more than 12hrs from last dose containing T3.

You could try 1/4 grain less which might or might not help your hair.

FT4 is only 30% of range which works for some but not for others. Have you thought about raising your FT4 more with a small dose of Levo?

You think levo will help?

It might, no guarantee.

You'd have to drop 1/4 - 1/2 a grain probably to add 25mcgs Levo.

Have you ever tried a Levo/T3 combination? Not suggesting you try that now but just wondering.

I decided to go straight to ndt as two of my friends on Levo did not feel good. One put on a lot of weight and the other felt worse on it so it put me off. I feel great on the ndt other than hair loss. I woukd be willing to try a combo if it would stop the shedding,

Its important to realise that we are all different. What suits one person won't another and vice versa.

Many people on Levo alone either aren't on high enough a dose or haven't attended to their low vitamin levels. By far the majority do well on Levo only.

I wouldn't jump to a combination just yet now you're on NDT. Maybe try adding 25mcg Levo once you've dropped 1/4 grain.

See if GP will do an iron panel for you to see if thats the hair issue.

I'm not sure hair loss is improved by any particular thyroid hormone replacement :

Can be associated with low iron ?

my serum folate is 15.7 does that help? I just ordered a full iron blood test

I think the iron panel will be of more value - and sorry, but my knowledge limited in this speciality - but there are other forum members who can interpret these for you.

I appreciate your thoughts

I think with NDT being long-acting we are supposed to test 18 hours after the dose or ever 24 hours as per diogenes FancyPants54 I think you mentioned this on one of my posts before (or somewhere else on here!)?

TheresaGreen1967 profile image
TheresaGreen1967 in reply toIncoguto

I didn’t know that. I thought I was doing it correctly. It’s too expensive to keep testing

There isn't right or wrong, it's really where you feel well. You're not going over range, that's good, you can always try to increase by 1/8 grains or decrease. Adding levo in 6.25 mcg etc. Just small amounts

I doubt I said that. Its probably a matter for debate.

Sorry, I didn't mean you Jaydee, it was diogenes mainly, because t3 in NDT is bound to thyroglobulin it peaks much later and slower than liothyronine. Paul R recommends the same, 12 hours is too early for NDT according to him. Just to present different ideas.
