Welcome to the forum, Petalouda. Thyroid replacement dosing is according to TSH, FT4 and FT3 levels, not age, gender and weight. Weight/dose ratio is sometimes used to guide the initial dose for a patient post thyroidectomy, but thereafter will be according to thyroid levels.
If you post your thyroid results and ranges (figures in brackets after results) and say what dose Levothyroxine you are currently taking I can advise what an equivalent T3 dose is.
I am on T3 only. I take a dose which makes me feel good and healthy. All my symptoms have gone.
I haven't gone for age/weight/sex.
I dose once daily in the morning and I have no ups or downs.
Hi petalouda, i'm like shaws, dose only once in the morning when i wake.
I'd had no thyroid meds in my system for 9 weeks and started on 6.25mcg of t3 (quarter of a tablet) and only increased when i felt the need. It took about 16 weeks for me to reach my current dose of 50mcg of which i feel will be my optimal dose now.
Don't forget, whats right for one isn't always right for another, thyroid is such an individual and bespoke illness in some ways, we can all have different symptoms and can all react differently to thyroxine, T3 and NDT, just wish medical profession would understand that!
Don't give up if one regime doesn't work, experiment and try different options. I multi dosed first time round but suffered with peaks and troughs. I now once only dose and it suits me much better.
Hope you find what works for you.
Sparkly x
I don't want to copy another s treatment. Although I think that a man of 185 cm and 90 kg can t have same needs of hormone than a woman of 160cm and 55kg.
Thanks for the response.
Petalouda, of course he can, it will depend how much thyroid function either of them has. I have no thyroid at all and take a much lower dose than many, but double the dose my sister, also thyroidless and heavier than I am, takes.
ok just say that i m interesting by people either with no thyroid or with thyroid function = 0. (destroyed after many years with hashimoto)
Petalouda, I was prescribed T3 20mcg x 3 daily post thyroidectomy to suppress TSH.
I'm on T3 only. I'm female, 70 years of age, 5ft 5in, about 75 kilos, and I take 100 mcg at the moment, in one single dose at night. My thyroid has been destroyed by Hashi's because I was undiagnosed and untreated for about 50 years.
There are so many, many variables apart from age/sex/weight that you can't have any sort of formula for dosing. You take what you need, and that's all there is to say about it.
Hehe😄 Grey, that made me chuckle! I bet your in the Guinness book of records for that?!!!
Sparkly x
At night? Interesting, and no effects to your sleep? And at 70ees on 100 mcg of T3 no effects like tachycardia or other?
Overweight small person grey goose?!!
Hello again Grey. Can you tell me the reason of taking t3 at night? Have you ever took it in the morning? What difference dit you feel. Thank you
To be honest, I can't remember if I've ever taken it in the morning. As I've explained before somewhere, I was in such a bad state at that point, really ill from the NDT, I didn't have much idea what I was doing.
I started taking my NDT at night, I think, because I read that Dr John Lowe took his T3 at night, all in one go. And I read his reasons for doing so - although I can't for the life of me remember now what his reasons were - and they sounded logical. And whilst it didn't work with the NDT - but then nothing worked for me with NDT - it worked well with the T3. It meant I couldn't forget a dose, because the pot was right there on the bedside table when I turned out the light. It didn't affect my sleep - although sometimes other things did - and if I managed to get a full night's sleep I didn't find I had the peaks and troughs that other people talk about. I cannot now imagine trying anything else.
Ok i will go back to Dr Lowe's rightings, because i thought he took 1 dose in the morning. Thank you
No, he took 150 mcg T3 at night.
I precise that i m not looking for a formula but just for others experiences.
😊xx
