Thyroid blood tests and thyroid medications.

How many hours before going for blood tests I should stop taking my erfa tablets? Can somebody remind me please?

We were advised to take tablets normally one day, to not take them the next morning until after the test, so try to get your blood tests first thing in the morning so that you are not too late taking the tablets that day. Jane x

Thank you Jane. I take my second dose late in the evening. Shall I skip this late evening dose if my blood tests are on the morning?

No don't skip that one as it might skew the results. You should take the complete dose you normally take for the day before the test. Jane x

Ok. Thank you Jane. Are there any uk papers written on this subject? I wanted to show my doctor that previous blood test which was done 2 hours after taking my NDT is not reliable. He does not want to repeat test as he keep telling me that it doesn't matter if blood was taken after taking NDT. I can't win with him..

It makes perfect sense to me that the test would be unreliable almost immediately after taking the tablets. It's extraordinary that he can't see that! I'm afraid I don't know of any studies. We were instructed by a doctor about when to take the tablets. Jane x
