D3 or not D3 . . . update . . .

Hi,

A while ago I asked if all my symptoms could be due to lack of D3,

since then I have been back to the doc.

He still suspects I have PMR even though I don't think my main symptoms don't relate to it.

I said I still thought my problems were due to my thyroid.

Eventually, he said I could try a trial dose of levo (25microgram 28 days) but on the understanding that he didn't think it was due to a throid condition and that my natural T4 production would stop due to the levo taking over and that some people like to take this medicine as a "kick" and I would feel better on it due to this.

Also I should have another tsh test before taking any...appointment on thursday.(hope to arrange for a vit d, calcium and iron test done also).

So now I am worried and confused that If its all down to my thyroid I won't know due to the "Kick" of levo and I could be be doing myself more harm than good.

I would appreciate any advice / thoughts

PS: I have been taking my temp different times of the day which the highest is 36.3c and the lowest 35.4c., (wearing 3 jumpers, a gilet, coat and some times a hat, indoors, the central heating on at 21c) and abslolutley exhausted doing any small task eg having a shower.

Many Thanks FF

Well, from my experience, 25mcg would be more of a 'tickle' than a 'kick'.

A trial of thyroid hormone on people who have clinical symptoms is harmless (I am not medically qualified) but that is the view of one doctor who trained in the 1960's when doctors were taught clinical symptoms of many illnesses - now it is down to lab results.

Before the TSH blood tests became the norm, people with clinical symptoms were medicated. Levothyroxine is only a hormone and 25mcg is such a small dose, if you feel an improvement he should increase it in about 4 weeks.

I can imagine that a lot of people would be only too happy to get a kick out of their levo!!! But I've never heard of one that has. Some people, myself included, even feel worse for a while after they first start. Where do they get these silly stories?!?!?

Thanks greygoose,

I haven't heard this either, and was wondering if my doc would use this as a reason to stop the treatment even if i did feel better on it.

With someone that ignorant, anything is possible! You need to read and read and read and learn as much as possible and arm yourself with knowledge so that you can defend yourself if the worst come to the worst. Ask as many questions as you wish here, there will always be someone to answer you.
