Get your T4 and T3 tested - and THEN decide.
oh - and it is reasonable to not treat the thyroid antibodies -IF the patient has NO symptoms...
This is an extract from an article by Dr Toft, ex of the British Thyroid Association in Pulse online. If you would like a copy of the article for your GP, email Louise.Warvill@Thyroiduk.org. She will probably reply on Monday.:-
The combination of a normal serum T4 and raised serum TSH is known as subclinical hypothyroidism. If measured, serum T3 will also be normal. Repeat the thyroid function tests in two or three months in case the abnormality represents a resolving thyroiditis.2
But if it persists then antibodies to thyroid peroxidase should be measured. If these are positive – indicative of underlying autoimmune thyroid disease – the patient should be considered to have the mildest form of hypothyroidism.
In the absence of symptoms some would simply recommend annual thyroid function tests until serum TSH is over 10mU/l or symptoms such as tiredness and weight gain develop. But a more pragmatic approach is to recognise that the thyroid failure is likely to become worse and try to nip things in the bud rather than risk loss to follow-up.
Treatment should be started with levothyroxine in a dose sufficient to restore serum TSH to the lower part of its reference range. Levothyroxine in a dose of 75-100µg daily will usually
Thanks I'm off to see an endo next week, my tsh 3weeks

...when diagnosed with Hashimotos in 2005 my TFT's were all in range. Anti-bodies high. GP prescribed T4 - as in her words it would support the thyroid.
Hopefully you will find a sympathetic Endo....as you know they are sometimes set in their ways - so you will have to come back to this forum and talk to all those wise people.....
Thank you, did t4 help at all? Angie
....yes I think it did. Took T4 - just a small dose - 75mcg until last October when I went over to T3 only. Seem to be fine on that but again a small dose. Also the taking of vitamins has improved things.....
It may be helpful to look into gut health - as with so many auto-immune conditions it can be good to be as gluten free as possible. Also encourage good gut flora with Kefir. If you need more guidance on this topic then take a look at - ' see more tags ' - on the right of this page. You can also contact me.
Thank you I recently started a decent multi vit
And vit d as I am deficient and I must say that even
After a week the fatigue was slightly less. I used to
Take probiotics but stopped, not sure why I seem to try
Different things and if results are quick I stop!! Will look up kefir. Thanks very much for your reply. Angie
