Hi lila2

testing labs levels can vary - here is the on-line NHS lab I used, where above 50nmol/L is 'adequate'. However Dr M recommends an optimal level above 100nmol/L I believe.

I live in north of scotland and the sun is a mere memory just now .

Apparently the Winter Sun is no benefit anyway, and we only get max 10% of needs from food. I tried tabs (1000 a day) but daughter was on drops - she went straight up to 85 I only went from 40 to 50 in the Summer despite every opportunity out in the Sun and a week in Egypt! So I'm on drops too and do feel brighter and wrist/elbow/ribcage/leg aches & pains gone. J :D

Can't believe how stiff and sore my joints are, elbows very stiff, taking drops and will re test levels. Hey ho onwards and upwards as they say.

let us know how you get on.... I stopped for a while (as I thought it may be adding to my insomnia) but my elbowometer reminded me!

someone said the dose could be calculated, from 80 - (so 80-50 = 30 x100) so I'm taking 3 drops (3000iu) in the morning with milk at the mo, if another test proves I'm above 80 - then I'll just take a maintenance dose.

This is just my experience - not necessarily advice for all! We should really get Calcium tested too as they're connected, but my GP wouldn't do one or B12.

Apologies for not finding links at the mo! J :D

I really thought I was imagining my elbows but am beginning to realize that I can tell when my levels are going down by my elbows how strange is that !!!! Will keep you posted.

Lila2 - Could you expand about your elbows, please. I am on Vitamin D at the moment and used to have a lot of nerve pain and numbness from my elbows when putting pressure on them, but has now gradually improved and wonder if the discomfort I suffered was due to Vitamin D deficiency. Thanking you in anticipation of a response, Lila2.x
