Candygirl, I was prescribed 40,000iu vitD3 x 7 days followed by 2,000iu daily for 8 weeks and it raised my level from <10 to just over 100. Considerably improved musculoskeletal pain I was experiencing too :) I self-supplement 5,000iu daily as knee and hip pain resumed 6 weeks after I stopped supplementing. Follow up vitD test in December.

What's being done about your high TSH?

Hi clutter many thanks for your reply. I was shocked by my raised tsh as it was 7 few months ago. My antibodies 1300. The specialist has upped levo to 225 plus the vit d supplement. Also would like to see if I can manage my asthma without steroid inhaler. With these changes would like to see me again in four months. He seems to think vit D deficiency can play a part. My bloods came back vit d deficient. I feel lousy brain fog exhausted chronic pain......... will be getting prescription tomorrow so can then say brand name of med. It vit d3 with calcium 2x 2 daily.

Tracey, mine was ProD3. Doesn't have calcium in it.

I should think you are in pain with high TSH and vitD def too. How are your iron and ferritin? Low iron causes pain and breathlessness.

A lot of members find gluten-free helps reduce Hashi antibodies and flare ups.

Endos seem to be getting the message about vitD at last, although mine is adamant vitD def doesn't cause pain. I laughed at him and said I'll continue taking my placebo vitD anyway.

Hi clutter I had know idea about Vit d it was his suggestion. He is a young senior registra so may be more forward thinking. I also suffer with diabitis chronic pain syndrome gout ibs hypertension full house. My iron levels he said are good which suprised me as I am having increasingly heavy periods. Don't know about feratin. I'm in a lot of pain. Then added to that brain fog confusion slowness motivation coughs and colds list goes on. I will certainly look into gluten free diet. Many thanks Tracey. X

Candy, for the asthma, check out your Vit B12, too. You are probably very low in that and need supplimenting. It should be over 900.

Hugs, Grey

Tracey, that's going to take a very long time to raise your levels. You really need a loading dose to boost your levels up.

Maybe an appointment with gp is in order.

Tracey, I would. And I'd print off and highlight the relevant section from guidelines advising loading and maintenance doses in case the GP isn't familiar with the guidelines.

Thanks clutter will ring in the morning. Do you think vit d deficiency causes underactive thyroid or vice versa or just an added complication.

Tracey, I've not seen it suggested that vitD def causes hypothyroidism but vitD def is common in thyroid patients. 40% of thyroidectomised patients in the USA were found to be vitD def.

Iodine and cobalt deficiences have been shown to cause hypothyroidism and excess iodine can cause autoimmune thyroiditis.

Thank you for your advice. I am 45 so could very well be perimenoporsal my periods are becoming increasingly erratic 22 to 36 days and so heavy with clotting that I am unable to leave home for three days. I think as you that its all making things haywire. I was even considering trying dep proven contraceptive injection as when I was on that years ago it stopped my periods. I go to see specialist again in four months hope things improve if not I'm trying to become more knowledgeable of this disorder so know the right questions and treatment options. So many thanks for your advice I will ask for hormone test and the others you advised. Many thanks Tracey. X

Hi Candygirl I am 45 too and have had similar symptoms regarding menstruation. I had the mirena coil fitted in June and haven't had a problem since. ( Slight spotting for 3 days a month.)

There are a lot of horror stories out there regarding the mirena coil and I know it's not for everyone, but I was housebound as a result of my periods and I have never looked back since I had it fitted.. just a thought.

Thanks for your advice glad to know there are options my mum had to have a hysterectomy for the same symptoms as me. Glad you are much better. Would be great to have one less issue. X

She shouldn't take vit A when she's supplementing with vit D because vit A blocks vit D even in small doses.

Oh, and we don't take good care for granted because we rarely get it!
