More blood tests for Coeliac an Addisons :(

Hi folks,

Has anyone else been tested for these?

Had the Coeliac this morning at Docs but opted to pay for Adrenalan Cortisol, which at £136 I thought wasn't bad at all! Found out it is to test for Addisons. Is it a test for anything else?

Thanks.x

Just be aware that you can still test negative for TGA and still have coeliac (like me). So if your test is neg, don't assume you do not have coeliac.

The adrenal test may show varying degrees of adrenal dysfunction, but the NHS only recognises the most serious ie Addison's. So again, if you are told your test is normal so not assume you do not have a degree of adrenal dysfunction.

If you had the test done privately, do not expect the NHS to take it on board because they will not. Sorry, just telling it like it is.

Having it done by a Professor of Endo. The best in his field, an works for NHS an private, surely that makes a difference?

Got me worried now!

:(

How do I find out if it comes back negative please?

RE Addisons tests: If it comes back negative your doctor will write to you and your gp with the results (or maybe just your gp)

As Bluedaffodil said, if the test is within the NHS "normal" range you may get a negative, as I did yet I have several of the symptoms of Addisons.

My thyroid was on the low end of normal for years and my symptoms were ignored until the NHS "normal" range was changed, at which point they listened. Maybe if the addisons ranges changed we might get somewhere.

Be aware that the test isn't nice so if it isn't needed then don't have it :)

Thank ou moody cow, I have to have the results! I need to know what is happening! Xxx

lol I did too, though at the time I wish I hadn't lol After several seemingly heart related issues the cardiologist has asked for a re-referral to the endochrinologist for guess what.... Addisons lol x
