Hey guys, just a quickie. Im on 75gm of Thyroxine. I feel ok apart from the fact im still having problems with my shoulders hurting. Was wondering would I be able to take Omega 3 as ive heard its good for the bones. Ive just had a blood test done and everything is fine.

Many thanks for any replies.

I take omega 3 but not within a couple of hours of my thyroid meds. There are many benefits to omega 3 and I have not heard of any reason not to take it :)

While am very careful to take my levothyroxine, I am afraid Omega 3 falls into the "when I remember" category. Not good is it?

But as CarolynB wrote - I am not aware of any reason not to, provided suitably separated in time.

Could I ask why you need to take it away from your thyroid meds?

I take mine in the morning with my thyroid meds.

Hi Carolyn thankyou for the reply. Ill deffinately buy some tomorrow. My stiff painful shoulders and driving me nuts im waiting for physio on one of them but thought maybe if I took something it would help them. Thankyou again. Tasia x

I have painful shoulders too and have been taking Omega 3 for years - it's definitely a good idea, but may not be the answer for your pain (though I hope it is). Have you had yuor B12 levels tested? One of the many symptoms of deficiency is joint and muscle pain.

I have been taking Omega 3 capsules since my bypass in 2009. I was prescribed them three months after attending Cardiac Rehab because I could not tolerate oily fish. I read a Pulse magazine article today which mentioned research showing that there was between 21 and 42% reduction in mortality after heart bypass operations.

David

Tasia, a nutrition professor told me to always take vitamins along with food and Dr. Andrew Weil in the U.S. suggests taking oily supplements with meals which includes other oils. We need to have a balance of the Omega 3, 6 and 9's. Omega 3 is an essential fatty acid which the body cannot make so unless you eat plenty of salmon or mackerel most of us can use some supplementing. So I take vitamin e, krill oil or fish oil with lunch. B vitamins, vitamin c and mineral supplements with breakfast.
