Omega 3 supplements- increased risk of cardiovascular disease?

I recently read on a Grassroots Health newsletter that recent research has shown that B vitamins don’t work well without omega 3. (I can’t be more specific than ‘don’t work well ‘and I’m not sure there was a reference - but I’ll find a screenshot.

I take a B complex So I started supplementing with omega 3. Then I read somewhere else, but I can’t find it now, that people at risk of cardiovascular disease should be wary of supplementing omega 3. I don’t have cardiovascular disease but I do have pre diabetic high blood sugar, blood pressure creeping up, and rather high triglycerides, and I’m on Levo monotherapy, which we all know, is not without risk to long term health.

I haven’t actually tested my omega 3. Should I continue to take it or not?

This article says Omega-3s Can Improve Risk Factors for Heart Disease healthline.com/nutrition/17...

I guess it all depends where you read. The internet is awash with conflicting info!

Maybe the thing you read specifically referred to supplements rather than Omega-3? These supplements got a bad press a few years ago (and the link from Stitch Fairy states they don't help CVD). But you can get sufficient omega 3 from foods eg oily fish.

Thanks, @ userotc yes, it was referring to supplements, not omega 3 itself. I’m vegetarian; not super strict about it but I don’t like fish!

I’ll have to do a bit more research.

Try seeds, especially flax (linseed), pumpkin, chia and hemp seeds.

Thanks, Radd, I used to take flax and chia for my high cholesterol but when my Levo got up to a decent level my cholesterol fell and I forgot to keep up the seeds - will reinstate.
