Hi,
You see the ad "the three worst foods for thyroid" and the other ad that goes something like "the food you should eat every morning for thyroid". I don't know. Could someone tell me so I don't get rooked into buying these books?
Thanks

Nicole, I've not seen the ad.
Generally, avoid all types of soy (except fermented soy), avoid raw cruciferous veg (lightly cooked is usually fine) and if you have Hashimoto's adopt a gluten-free diet.
Thank you. Gluten-free sounds like "let me die now". I have only seen my endo once. I asked him about glutrogenic foods and he pooopooed them. He said it's toxins. He said I have thyroidism an autoimmune problem and a problem with converting t4 to t3 and said that he wanted to study me. He asked pharmacy for Armour and was refused (Veterans Administration). He did a lot of blood testing I will find out in 3 weeks. I need to driillll him further.
Your endo sounds more reasonable than most even if he didnt understand the food issues.
Going gluten-free was a huge irritation and annoyance and I hated having to do it. But I tried it as an experiment and got benefits from it within a week, so I've stuck with it. I know that for some people it takes a lot longer than a week to see any results, but I would definitely recommend trying it for at least 3 months.
I've been gluten-free for 7 months now, and I'm just beginning to adapt to it mentally. I don't resent it quite so much any more. So it shouldn't feel like a chore for ever.
Have the same non-conversion issue. My Doc put m on liothyronine in addition to levothyroxin and I also take kelp. Other commenters have mentioned the food issues- soy, cruciferous veggies. Avoid Calcium supplements within 4 hours of taking your thyroid meds. Make sure to take your meds on an EMPTY stomach.
Good luck!
What is fermented soy please?
Sandybeach, whfoods.com/genpage.php?tna... Please ignore the comments about the health properties of non-fermented soy later in the article.
No soya of any kind. Make sure any veges are thoroughly cooked and all things in moderation!
(@Nicole6 - hope it's ok if I hijack your thread a moment ..)
Clutter - are you thinking eating fermented soy such as natto is ok for hypothyroid conditions? [I can't get the link you provide to open]
