Above are results recieved today of my recent blood test taken after advise on my recent Blog. Also I can say that for the past two weeks my temperature taken at about 8am each morning is roughly about 36 ish .

Pernicius aneamia runs in my family (my mother ) and as aper my previous blog I have most of the symptoms. I dont really understand these results and would like some help please. xxxxxxx

NB Also I have read Martyn Hoopers Book (well as much as I could understand and agree my symptoms are so similar but then I agree with MaryF on Hughes Syndrome. This is all so hard. I take 175mg Thyroxine Daily and I live in Solihull near Birmingham. Love you all xxxx

If you have the reference ranges for the above tests, it would be really helpful if you could post them.

Without the reference ranges I can see that you really need to increase your B12 considerably and perhaps your folate a little. From your B12 results I would say you might be following in the family footsteps regarding pernicious anaemia. Your pernicious anaemia symptoms are probably because your B12 is right near the bottom of the range. It really needs to be above 500 for good health (although the reference range is likely to say something like 180 because our labs and doctors appear to be a little misguided :( )

I can't really comment on the others without reference ranges except to say that your TSH and T4 don't look too bad, which isn't particularly helpful to you.

Are there tests that can be done to confirm that you have a problem absorbing vitamin B12? Are you taking B12 supplements? If you aren't supplementing, it might be wise to start. You may find that you don't absorb tablets well if PA runs in your family so you might want to look into a sublingual B vitamin supplement. If you are taking B12 it is advisable to also take the other B vitamins too.

I'm sorry I can't be more help but hopefully this will be a start.

Wishing you all the best

Thank you Carolyn.

Ref Ranges T4 9.0-19.0 / TSH 0.4 - 4.9 / B12 191-663/ Serum folate3.1-20.5/ Calcium 2.20-2.60/albumin 35-50/ Glucose 3.9-5.8/ Magnesium 0.70-1.00.

Im not taking any supplements at all and I dont know if there are tests to confirm that I have trouble absorbing it. i have looked on sites to see about sublingual vit B supplement and will be quite happy to buy it.

I will await your next comment. Also i can see by other peoples comments and worries that it is hard to pursued your doctot whats wrong with you. my Doctor laughed at me and said if I was deficiant he would know about it. he has stated that all these new test results are fine and is sending me to see a phsycotheripist in January because he states my symptoms are nurelogical ! x

Your other tests do look ok. I really think the vitamin B12 is at least part of the problem. If I were in your shoes I would go ahead with the sublingual B12. It doesn't sound like your doctor is sympathetic enough to prescribe B12 injections, which would be better.

I personally felt better after taking B12 in the form of tablets but I don't seem to have absorption problems to the extent a lot of people do. Also getting my vitamin D up to only insufficient made quite a difference too. It might be worth getting this tested too if you can, especially in light of the news today that said that 50% of white-skinned people are deficient in vitamin D and 90% of darker-skinned people are deficient. Your GP can't argue with your request really.

I hope the B12 helps you. You definitely need to get your levels up! In Japan the lowest healthy level is around 400, yet here it is only around 180!!! Our doctors seem to be so out of date :(

I believe there is a pernicious anaemia community on health unlocked too. They may be able to help you even more. The PA won't be helping with your body using the thyroid hormones either so it is worth trying to get it sorted out.

Take care

Thank you so much Carolyn for your advice. Im on the sublingual trail for B12 as we speak and will sort out my vitamin D. You have enlightened me so much.

Thanks again

Hi, Tangles, if you really have no option but the sub-lingual route for increasing your B12 levels you might like to read all my posts about this on this link:

I'm glad to think that I might have helped. Even if you eventually go down the route of self-injection at least you know how you can easily begin at once the process of raising your B12 levels sublingually.

Merry Christmas!
