How do you feel

Was test early morning, ideally before 9am only drinking water between waking and test

What vitamin supplements are you taking

Are you on gluten free and/or dairy free diet

Request full iron panel test for anaemia plus vitamin D, folate and B12 tested

So politely write letter or email in requesting these are tested

Then the request is on your medical records and hard for them to ignore

How much vitamin D are you taking

Are you taking separate magnesium as well

Daily vitamin B complex?

IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 3-5 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results

endocrinenews.endocrine.org...

In week before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate folate supplement (eg Jarrow methyl folate 400mcg) and continue separate B12 if last test result serum B12 was below 500 or active B12 (private test) under 70

I was taking the better you spray red one. Need to start that again. And also the b complex. I was taking the igennous super b complex. I got lazy in taking them and forgot.

Then all the more reason to get retested

Highly likely levels have dropped

Low vitamin levels tend to lower TSH which is all many GP’s look at

Test and maintain GOOD vitamin levels at least annually

I will request this. Do i just write to my own G.P Never done that before. How would they arrange tests if they were warranted? Contact me directly

Sorry if that's a stupid question.

Ok. Just don't know how to word it to make them aware I need vitamin testing. I remember my ferritin was 15 at one point. Bottom of the range and it was said to be fine 🤷‍♂️

Write something like this

Dear Dr Xxxx

as I have a history of deficiencies in iron/ferritin, B12, folate and vitamin D, I would request that my vitamin levels are tested as I have numerous ongoing symptoms

Vitamin levels have not been retested for x years

My thyroid antibodies remain very high at >1000

I understand that lower vitamin levels can be a direct result of autoimmune hypothyroidism

(If you’ve not already had coeliac blood test and not on gluten free diet add this bit too)

Please could a coeliac blood test also be done as indicated by NICE guidelines

nice.org.uk/guidance/ng20/c...

1.1 Recognition of coeliac disease

1.1.1

Offer serological testing for coeliac disease to:

people with any of the following:

persistent unexplained abdominal or gastrointestinal symptoms

faltering growth

prolonged fatigue

unexpected weight loss

severe or persistent mouth ulcers

unexplained iron, vitamin B12 or folate deficiency

type 1 diabetes, at diagnosis

autoimmune thyroid disease, at diagnosis

irritable bowel syndrome (in adults)

first‑degree relatives of people with coeliac disease.
