DIO2 Test at Regenerus Labs

Sent the following online query to Regenerus the other day and not had a response.

"I notice that your DNA Test OMNO1 (£159) checks DIO2. Can I ask please, is the reported result useful in determining whether you have the DIO2 polymorphism implicated in thryoid health T4 to T3 conversion? By this I mean, will the result be reported as “homozygous”, “heterozygous” or “negative”?

Also, is this the only test that you offer that reports on DIO2?"

Just wondering if anyone has used said test/another test with Regenerus to determine DIO2 status.

I know Blue Horizon do a test which includes DIO2 as well. If memory serves me correctly, when my sister did the test she didn't need genetic counselling/a practitioner to receive the result. Unfortunately, my sister can't remember - brain fog! So, once again, if anyone can advise that would be much appreciated.

I had a Dio2 test a number of years ago.....positive and homozygous.

Homozygous means the snp was inherited from both parents .....having two identical alleles

Heterozygous means from one parent

I interpreted the results my self.....

This might help, it's easily understood

If you just want to check your T4 to T3 conversion status then you could save yourself a lot of money by comparing FT4 with FT3.....before anyT3 might have been introduced.

High FT4 with low FT3 = poor conversion

Some medics might suggest an expensive rT3 test .....stick with comparing the 2 Frees

Don't bother with reverse T3 testing, it's inactive and a red herring, costs a lot of money and takes quite a long time to get the results. Testing rT3 can tell you if your level is high but it can't tell you why it's high. There are many, many reasons for high rT3 but only one of them is to do with the thyroid and that's when there is an excess of unconverted T4 and you can tell that by looking at the FT4 and FT3 levels.

Regenerus may just be busy and will reply in time but the above should answer your questions

Good luck!

Ah DippyDame, thank you for replying - much appreciated. Nice to meet someone else who is homozygous! I'm actually making the query for someone else. I've not come across the Paul Robinson so, I'll take a good look at that. I'm specifically wondering how they will report the result. The test in question tests loads of different genes and so I am wondering how the results will be reported. I did the Regenerus test back in 2014 and I only got the one result - obviously it was just a test specifically for DIO2. I remember I had to have genetic counselling, which I didn't really want, but it turned out really well. It. was the head of BANT who called me and we just chatted about diet for about 20 mins. Went gluten free and have stuck with it ever since! Many thanks again.

Hi, I went a completely different route after some conversations here: I got a special offer Ancestry DNA test (partly looking at relatives, connections) with Traits (not sure about that bit, but there you go). I couldn't get a sensible answer out of them as to what was tested, so took pot luck to see. When I got the results, I downloaded the file for my own analysis.

So far I've used it to create 3 free reports from Genetic Genie: geneticgenie.org - they weren't very detailed, but interesting none the less. I also paid £29.99 (I think) to get a more detailed report from mthfr-genetics.co.uk

Using both those I worked out what genes were identified by ancestry.com and discovered I have a range of potentially 'interesting' genes around folate, B12, various vits/mins, thyroid, autoimmunity and allergy reactions. In a way, it's nothing new, or rather, it sort of confirmed symptoms and remedies etc that I've worked out through my health journey, but, it's kind of good to see it confirmed, and to see the reasons. DIO2 was in the mix.

The mthfr report (mine was 140+ pages) gives structured info/suggestions and watch points and your report is very clickable through to a whole internet of information. I found the report a bit too big when it arrived, but a couple of weeks later I've had another look and I'm appreciating the structure and the structured approach they recommend to avoiding, reducing, repairing or living with it. It gave me a personal map of B12/folate processes in my body too.

Looking at mthfr site, you can do a whole DNA test with them and get their reports for £134 at the moment. I'm assuming that it will include more genes that the ancestry dna test .. ?

Hi travel time, many thanks for this information. I've always wondered about Ancestry DNA and I hadn't heard of genetic genie.org. I suspect that the Regenerus test I mention in my initial post will come back with pages and pages of information. I still haven't had a response from Regenerus.....

Regenerus no longer sells cortisol tests to the public. We now have to go through a practitioner so it may be the same for the DIO2 test

You can call if they’re not responding to emails

What traveltime suggests seems a good route. I am not tech savvy enough to go that route. I did the Blue Horizon test which includes DIO1 as well as DIO2. It is sold without any counselling involved.
