Thyroid advice please TSH -0.21 (0.55-4.78)

Hi I've just had some blood tests done on the 7th March and my TSH level has come back at 0.21 with a range (0.55 -4.78) I take NP Thyroid (NDT) daily 1 grain.

I've recently had a problem with my heart and I'm beginning to wonder if it's to do with my thyroid, I'm now not sure if I'm taking too much and also if this is the correct medication as I'm starting to wonder if it's graves disease? My free T4 is in the range at 13.1 (11.50-22.70) any advice would be much appreciated as I feel like I'm going round in circles thank you! x

I also had the following results if this means anything else which might help;

Folate - >24.00 (3.00 -19.00)

Ferritin - 41 (10.00 - 291.00)

Vitamin B12 - >2000 (211 - 911)

I'm constantly tired and fatigued I'm beginning to wonder if I have a malabsorption problem? Does anyone know if a high B12 level can be due to the B12 pooling and not transferring into the cells as I'm not injecting and it has risen by over 1000 in 5 months thank you X

What about Supplements containing B12?

You haven't got Graves disease.

FT4: 13.1 pmol/l (Range 11.5 - 22.7) 14.29%

I agree. With that incredibly low FT4 you most certainly haven't got Graves'! You're just under-medicated. 1 grain is a very low dose. And that's more than likely why you have heart problems. The heart needs an awful lot of T3, and you just haven't got enough.

Your ferritin is also much too low, and that will affect your heart. You need a full iron panel to see what's going on.

B12 doesn't pool (I doubt if anything does, actually). It is water-soluble so any excess is excreted. Your folate is also high. So, if I were you, I'd check it out on the Pernicious Anemia forum, see what they think about it. :)

exactly what vitamin supplements are you taking?

Ferritin is low

You need full iron panel test for anaemia

Never supplement iron without doing full iron panel test for anaemia first and retest 3-4 times a year if self supplementing.

It’s possible to have low ferritin but high iron

Test early morning, only water to drink between waking and test. Avoid high iron rich dinner night before test

If taking any iron supplements stop 3-5 days before testing

Medichecks iron panel test

Constantly tired and needing a nap is a confirmation that your brain and heart are not getting enough T3. When I was on 1 grain of NDT per day, my resting heart rate was 49 bpm and I was sleeping intermittently across the day. It took months to titrate the dose upwards, after hearing from others here that two or three grains is a reasonable dose to operate an adult human body that thinks and moves above.

I run and am a full time student. It takes 2-1/2 grains to do this, and supplemental iron.

Are you using a vitamin B supplement?

Thank you for your replies but my GP is telling me that I'm taking too much NDT and over medicating which is why I'm so confused as to what to do??

I take a Jarrow's B12 1000mcg every other day at the moment too

Does your GP know much about NDT?

My blood work looks close to yours. I am tired most days and insomnia at night. I take 2 grain thyroid per day. If I get an answer, I will share
