B12 & Ferritin advice please.

Hello folks, Thank you for yesterday's responses. I had one response here yesterday from DD regarding my B12 and Ferritin levels. My question is if I'm having 4 x eggs per day then there's a food chance I've got B12 covered?

Ferritin is another story as I've googled etc and it's confusing me.

I had a level of 386 when it was checked around 3 months ago (see results in a previous post)

Which I believe is within a good range?

Really I would like to know if I need to supplement more, with what and how do I calculate the amount?

Sometimes it almost doesn't matter what we eat, we will still get low levels of vitamins regardless.

Have you tested B12 & folate because that will show what you need, not your diet.

Your ferritin is good but its possible to have good ferritin and poor serum iron so to be sure you should get a full iron panel run.

What are you supplementing with currently and what are your vitamin results? I cant see a vitamin post from yesterday.

These are my only lab results around 3 months ago. Yesterday's question was regarding latest GP test TSH & FT4 question.

For what it's worth (I'm no expert on this!), those ferritin, folate and active B12 levels look good to me, and don't suggest you need to take supplements.

Are you currently supplementing, if so with what?

Do you have a vit D result?

Vitamins look good. As I said before you could get an iron panel run for completeness.

Taken from yesterday's post:

DD: Have you optimised vit D, vit B12, folate and ferritin to support thyroid function/T4 to T3 conversion?

You: So are you saying that I now need to supplement with B12 and Ferritin too?

To which she hasn't yet replied. But, no, I don't think that was what she was saying. She asked a question: are your B12 and ferritin optimal? I haven't looked at your results so I can't say, and it rather looks like she didn't look, either, before asking the question. :)

My question is if I'm having 4 x eggs per day then there's a food chance I've got B12 covered?

No, not necessarily. It's not about how much of what you eat, it's about how much you're capable of absorbing. As hypos usually have low stomach acid they have difficulty absorbing nutrients, so you could have the best possible diet and still be deficient in some things. That's why we always suggest testing nutrients. If only doctors knew that. Sigh.

Ah! okay apologies to everyone concerned if I've misunderstood. I certainly wasn't having a go at anyone 🙏 I just didn't understand.

Thanks for explaining.

I'm sure nobody thought you were having a go at anyone, but you sounded concerned, so best to get it cleared up. :)
