When to re-test vitamin levels?

Newtohashimotos2025 profile image

Hi all,

I have started taking vitamins as per SlowDragon advice (Thankyou again for the detailed information).

Vitamin D3 + K2 mouth spray 3,000units (18 days ago)

Vitamin b12 1000mcg sublingual (8 days ago)

Vitamin b complex (today)

When should I be looking to test my levels next? I will be going through Medichecks as GP refused to carry out vitamin testing. I will also have full panel thyroid check done as GP does not do F3 testing.

Currently taking 50mcg Levo, I am trying to get in touch with GP to get this increased as symptomatic and latest TSH 2.16.

Thank you 🙏

I'd suggest as your Vit D is so low (54) a few weeks loading dose at 20,000iu would get your levels up and then you can drop back to a maintenance dose which for me is 4-5,000iu, just adding 3,000iu isn't going to make much of an impact

I wouldn't rush to retest twice a year is ideal for vits and mins whereas thyroid levels check 8-12 weeks after any dose change

Push GP to increase your dose Levo

Assuming you get dose increase

Retest thyroid and vitamin levels in 2-3 months

If you don’t get increase in dose Levo retest 6-8 weeks time

Had a call from GP surgery today. Receptionist told me GP said to continue with 50mcg and have further blood test in 3 months. I had asked to speak to GP so I will now need to phone tomorrow for an appointment to ask for dose increase.

Is there a better way for me to word getting an increase? I feel the same way I did when I started. Still lethargic/cold/muscle aches.

Should I be quoting the guidelines to them?

Drop a letter into your GP

Make sure you say you have had some improvements on 50mcg

But then …..List ongoing symptoms and request increase in Levo to 75mcg per day

Request 25mcg tablet prescribed alongside 50mcg

Print out any NHS and NICE guidelines that support your next increase to 75mcg

Include these with your letter

which brand of Levo are you currently taking for 50mcg

Ideally don’t change brand

If currently taking Accord 50mcg (also boxed as Almus or Hillcross) …..Accord don’t make 25mcg tablets

You could

A) try Wockhardt or Mercury Pharma or Vencamil 25mcg tablets

Avoid Teva …..unless you know you can tolerate it

B) if want Accord only request extra 50mcg tablets and cut in half to get 25mcg

I am currently on Teva! Is there an issue with this brand?

I will look at drafting a letter - thanks for the advice again!
