Up Levo dose?

Hi everyone

Just had my blood results from Medichecks today.Im happy my active B12 is climbing slowly….folate good…Vit D still climbing.

Was wondering if an increase in Levothyroxine would help.

TSH 1.62 (0.27-4.2)

Free T3 4.1 (3.1-6.8)

Free Thyroxine 19.8 (12-22)

I usually take my levo at night….so skipped the dose the night before the test which was done in the morning.

Any help/advice would be much appreciated

Cheers

FT4 is at 78% of range so still a bit of wiggle room for aan increase. You could try 12.5mcgs or alternaate days an extra 25mcgs.

FT3 is on the low side, so in time you may need to think about adding some T3 to aleviate symptoms.

Thanks Jaydee….I tried adding a little t3 a few months back, but didn’t get on with it.

I cut a 25mcg tab in half, then halved that again and took that 6.25 mcg…too much starting off maybe….im not sure

How were your vitamin levels at that time and how are they now?

I see you have low active B12 and taking a PPI. PPIs do reduce stomach absorption further.

Exactly what were folate, D3 & ferritin results?

Low vitamins can cause intolerance particularly of T3.

My vit levels at the time were not good to be honest…All in range now,but not optimal….they are getting better which is good.Perhaps I’ll give the t3 another go when my levels are better.

Active B12 is 60

Vit D is 80

Folate and ferritin all good

What about ferritin & folate?

What are you taking now to help levels?

Definitely worth another try once you are sure that all 4 key vitamins are at good levels.

Ft4 is actually falsely low as last dose was 36 hours before test

So not sure there’s room for increase in dose of levothyroxine

Ok…maybe I’ll try t3 again when my levels are better. Thanks for the advice

B12 still low

What B12 are you taking

With serum B12 result below 500, (Or active B12 below 70) recommended to be taking a separate B12 supplement

A week later add a separate vitamin B Complex

Then once your serum B12 is over 500 (or Active B12 level has reached 70), you may be able to reduce then stop the B12 and just carry on with the B Complex.

If Vegetarian or vegan likely to need ongoing separate B12 few times a week

Low folate

supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in (not folic acid)

This can help keep all B vitamins in balance and will help improve B12 levels too

B vitamins best taken after breakfast

Igennus B complex popular option. Nice small tablets. Most people only find they need one per day. But a few people find it’s not high enough dose and may need 2 per day and/or may need separate methyl folate couple times a week

Post discussing different B complex

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

Thorne Basic B recommended vitamin B complex that contains folate, but they are large capsules. (You can tip powder out if can’t swallow capsule) Thorne can be difficult to find at reasonable price, should be around £20-£25. iherb.com often have in stock. Or try ebay

IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 5-7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results

endocrinenews.endocrine.org...

In week before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate folate supplement (eg Jarrow methyl folate 400mcg) and continue separate B12 if last test result serum B12 was below 500 or active B12 (private test) under 70
