I have been taking these new Vencamil Thyroxine from my Underactive Thyroid for a month and can I had been wondering how come I have started getting alot of muscle pain in whole body, especially legs and feet along with that when I wake up in mornings I struggle because even after 12 hours sleep I can still sleep. These tablets are making me more sleepy. I had been taking my previous make Thyroid tablets since 2000 and had no issues. I have today refused to take as I am find the pain get more and more each day. I brought these from Asda and on 75mcg take 1 in mornings only. I saw a video from Dr Berg saying when body needs Thyroxine it is such Iodine defiency. So today I have taken Iodine tablets instead to help my Thyroid instead of taking these tablets to make me suffer with sleepiness and muscle pain and weakness.

Be very careful with iodine.

Iodine can act as an anti-thyroid substance.

Seeing one claim in a video does not, to me, seem adequate justification for taking iodine as a supplement.

And most especially when the video is from a vendor of supplements.

Further, he is a chiropracter rather than a medical doctor.

Have you had a thyroid panel done recently to check your levels?

I urge everyone to put in Yellow Card reports if they have issues with any medicine. (If you are not in the UK, follow the procedures for wherever you are.)

These reports are our ONLY way of putting in ‘negative reviews’!

Below is a link to a general post which explains a bit more:

I suggest that you stop taking the Vencamil and go back to your original brand which agreed with you. There may be something in the Vencamil tablets which disagrees with you.

Forget the iodine.

With hypothyroidism, I personally steer well away from iodine.

As others have recommended, I would look to test thyroid levels and key thyroid vitamins and share test results with us

You may simply need dose INCREASE in Levo

Get bloods retested 6-8 weeks after ANY dose change or BRAND change in levothyroxine

How long have you been on only 75mcg

Unless extremely petite, this is very low dose

What were last TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 results

Levothyroxine contains all the iodine you need. Excess iodine can seriously affect thyroid.

Suggest you stop iodine immediately

Continue with Vencamil and get blood levels tested via GP asap

Guidelines of dose Levo by weight

approx how much do you weigh in kilo

Even if we frequently start on only 50mcg, most people need to increase levothyroxine dose slowly upwards in 25mcg steps (retesting 6-8 weeks after each increase) until eventually on, or somewhere near full replacement dose (typically 1.6mcg levothyroxine per kilo of your weight per day)

cks.nice.org.uk/topics/hypo...

bnf.nice.org.uk/drugs/levot...

nhs.uk/medicines/levothyrox...

Adults usually start with a dose between 50 micrograms and 100 micrograms taken once a day. This may be increased gradually over a few weeks to between 100 micrograms and 200 micrograms taken once a day.

Some people need a bit less than guidelines, some a bit more

TSH should always be below 2 on levothyroxine

Graph showing median TSH in healthy population is 1-1.5

If symptoms of hypothyroidism persist despite normalisation of TSH, the dose of levothyroxine can be titrated further to place the TSH in the lower part of the reference range or even slightly below (i.e., TSH: 0.1–2.0 mU/L), but avoiding TSH < 0.1 mU/L. Use of alternate day dosing of different levothyroxine strengths may be needed to achieve this (e.g., 100 mcg for 4 days; 125 mcg for 3 days weekly).

sciencedirect.com/science/a...

The optimal daily dose in overt hypothyroidism is 1·5–1·8 μg per kg of bodyweight, rounded to the nearest 25 μg.

What is reason for your hypothyroidism

Autoimmune?

Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

support.medichecks.com/hc/e...

If you normally take levothyroxine at bedtime/in night ...adjust timings as follows prior to blood test

If testing Monday morning, delay Saturday evening dose levothyroxine until Sunday morning. Delay Sunday evening dose levothyroxine until after blood test on Monday morning. Take Monday evening dose levothyroxine as per normal
