VENCAMIL 25 MCGM TABLETS

@helvella Today I contacted my GP practice by email and asked for them to alter my scrip for Vencamil.

Upto now I have received 2 x boxes of 100mcgm tablets per month. I have to cut up the 100 mcgm from the second box to make 4 x 25mcgm. I take a quarter tablet each day + 1 x 100mcgm= 125mcgm.

I asked for the second box of Vencamil to be 25mcgm tablets, no more cutting up, yippee.

Just now taken a call from Springfield Pharmacy who dispense my thyroid meds and they say that the computer says out of stock !!! and he only has ever had 100mcgm tablets.

I have plenty of medication, dont need any more x 100mcgm and said I would find out what has happened re 25mcgms. tabs.

Look forward to hearing who has received 25mcgm tabs and where from.

Many thanks

I am in a similar situation to yourself, as is helvella .

My GP gave me a prescription for 25mcg Vencamil last Monday. I called the chemist on Wednesday and apparently it wasnt yet stocked by Alliance wholesaler and my pharmacist was about to get permission to try and get it elsewhere.

I then phoned the man at Aristo whos dealing with this role out and he checked into it all, chased up Alliance ordering it and spoke to my pharmacist and by end of Friday I was told it should be in stock Monday but as yet I havent had a text from my pharmacy to tell me its ready for collection yet.

I'll call them tomorrow and update you.

Rats. Oh well, my pill cutter should hold out a little longer.

Afraid it might be next Wednesday before it is available... :-(

Ugh! Paul hasn't phoned to keep me updated which is surprising. I havent bothered to chase the pharmacy as little point.

Whats the hold up?

It appears that Alliance have been a problem. But I don't know the details.

Sorry I didn't reply, Crimple.

But your callout (mention) for me didn't convert to blue - so I didn't get an alert.

helvella and Jaydee1507 thank you for your replies and I will get back to Springfield with the info. I now have the "hang" of responding to people too😀

Hi Crimple, I’m sure your medication is just another name for Levo Tiroxene which starts at 25mg, but check with your doctor first. Good luck

In the UK, levothyroxine products start at 12.5 micrograms - and include 25, 50, 75 and 100 microgram products. However, which makes are available in which dosages needs to be looked up specifically.

Carven thank you, yes Vencamil is levothyroxine but not all levothyroxine tablets have the same fillers. The fillers such as lactose, mannitol and acacia powder affect many people on this site. I cannot tolerate acacia powder (it's in TEVA and other brands) The GP and Pharmacist will try to tell you that all levo is the same , IT IS NOT, it depends on the fillers.

Vencamil doesn't contain acacia powder, lactose or mannitol. It isn't just thyroid meds that contain fillers, most other meds contain some fillers so I have to read all PIL's very carefully to avoid acacia powder. I avoid honey too unless it is from a single source with no acacia. Acacia causes me severe stomach upsets.

Too many of us are dismissed by GPs and Pharmacists as being fussy for no good reason! My scrips have to be written with the name of my preferred levothyroxine and liothyronine brand included. Fortunately, Springfield Pharmacy are very obliging and they phoned me as soon as they saw the request for 25 mcgm Vencamil, which they were not able to obtain. It is a real faff trying to cut a small 100mcgm tablet into 4= 4 x 25 mcgm doses which even with a pill cutter can be uneven.

I shall have to be patient a little longer and wait for the 25mcgm tablets to be generally available. There must be a lot of people who have been waiting for them as up to now only 100mcgm was available.

Not what you're looking for?
