B vitamins and vitamin C together

Hi, I may have imagined it but I think I remember seeing somewhere on here that it was inadvisable to take B complex vitamins together with C for thyroid problems. I’m asking as I have a bottle of B complex with added vitamin C. Can anyone point me to this, or was it a dream? Many thanks.

No, it wasn't a dream. That was the thinking a couple of years ago. I can't remember why, nor where the idea came from, but it was said on here a lot and accepted as gospel.

Then, someone wrote to the manufacturers of a B complex with vit C, and they said it was OK.

Now, I don't necessarily trust the manufacturers, but it was generally accepted on here as being OK, and people stopped talking about it. I don't know what the latest thinking is. But in any case it had nothing to do with thyroid problems. :)

Mayo Clinic still say separate B12 from C!

Oh, interesting. But it still only says 'might', nothing definite. And as vit C helps with absorption of most things, one wonders why not B12.

Yep I remember this, I challenged Solgar and they confirmed the Vit C aided absorption )for theirs at least) and isn’t particularly high in dose.

So who does one believe?

Not a clue 🙄 personally I avoid as sensitive to vit C.

Just to say I always take my Thorne Basic B with my Vit C (three years) and have noticed no problem on that score.

Been taking both together for years, no problems.

The Igennus Super B-complex has added Vitamin C in their formulation, this is to prevent oxidation of B vitamins.

There are suggestions that Vitamin C might reduce the absorption of Vitamin B12, but as these Vit B complexes are usually dosed quite highly, you may still get sufficient Vitamin B12 when taken regularly.

Hi, yes my B complex is a high dose so should be ok. Many thanks.

I never stopped taking my B Complex with my Vitamin C. I don't have a problem with the B vitamins I test dropping dramatically.
