hello everyone, if your blood results are optimized however you still have symptoms what do you do.
tsh: 2.00
FT3: 3.1
FT4: 1.3
TPO: 1
Are the laboratory reference ranges for these blood tests still:
FT3: 2.5 to 3.9
FT4: 0.54 to 1.24
?
If so, I’m not so sure your levels are in fact “optimised”.
Can you add reference ranges for the thyroid tests, as suggested by Jazzw as these can vary between laboratories
Have you tested ferritin, folate, B12 and vitamin D? These key vitamins support thyroid health and also need to be optimal.
always test thyroid early morning and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test
How much levothyroxine are you taking
Which brand
Please add range on results
Plus vitamin results and ranges
and TG thyroid antibodies tested at least once to see if your hypothyroidism is autoimmune
About 90% of primary hypothyroidism is autoimmune thyroid disease, usually diagnosed by high TPO and/or high TG thyroid antibodies
Autoimmune thyroid disease with goitre is Hashimoto’s
Autoimmune thyroid disease without goitre is Ord’s thyroiditis.
Both are autoimmune and generally called Hashimoto’s.
Significant minority of Hashimoto’s patients only have high TG antibodies (thyroglobulin)
NHS only tests TG antibodies if TPO are high
Who told you these results were 'optimal'? I bet it was a doctor! lol They have no idea. A TSH of 2 couldn't possibly be optimal, it's too high. Euthyroid is around 1, and hypos usually need it lower because they need their Frees higher.
Besides, if you still have symptoms then your blood test results are most certainly not optimal, that's a contradiction in terms. Optimal is not a number, it's how you feel.
TSH 2 is arguably still a bit too high to be considered optimal , see below for list of references all suggesting GP's should aim to keep TSH between 0.4/0.5 - 2 /2.5 in all patients on levo
, so since 2 is towards the top end of this suggested optimal range and anything down to 0.4 is considered perfectly ok as long as T4/T3 not too high , your TSH certainly suggests a small dose increase is worth trying if you still have unresolved hypo symptoms .... hard to say more without knowing lab ranges used for your fT4 / fT3 results.

It may be "optimal" for the GP, but it is your body! Check your vits to rule out any lows here, but I think you need to go up a smidge.
