Thyroid Function Test Result
Can you tell us some background to these results?
Are you still taking carbimazole?
Have you had vitamin levels checked yet - ferritin, folate, B12 & D3?
Have you had any thyroid antibodies tested - TPO, Tg, Trab?
How are you and how do you feel?
Thank you for your response
I'm off carbimazole. I haven't done those tests before.I feel some tremor. I also feel cold easily in a cold environment
Also, what time of day was this test taken? Highest TSH is at 9am or earlier.
Free T4 (fT4) 78.72 pmol/L (60 - 140) 23.4%
Free T3 (fT3) 1.32 pmol/L (1 - 2.5) 21.3%
Your TSH is on the high side so showing signs your thyroid is struggling. It should be under 2 for a healthy person.
Both FT4 & FT3 are low and will be causing you symptoms.
As you had a period of being hyperthyroid it may be that you have Hashimoto's or autoimmune hypo. Testing antibodies would confirm this.
I'd recommend getting the vitamin levels tested and start a new post when you have the results. This is very important and will help you feel better. Often there are private blood test companies where you can buy a test if your doctor wont.
Suggest retesting in 3-4 months time using the following protocol:
Test at 9am (or as close as possible), fasting & no biotin containing supplements for 3-7 days (Biotin can interfere with thyroid blood results as it is used in the testing process).
Testing like this gives consistency in your results and will show stable blood levels of hormone and highest TSH which varies throughout the day.
Hey there again :
You now look to be hypothyroid - with a T4 at just around 23% and a T3 tracking just behind at around 21% through the ranges -
If still on the Anti Thyroid drug - we would look to try and maintain your T4 at around mid point - say around 50% through its range with the T3 tracking just behind at around 45.% through its range.
When metabolism is slowed too much by the AT drug your body will struggle to extract key nutrients from your food - no matter how well and clean you eat -
so suggest you get your ferritin, folate, B12 and vitamin D run as if these are not at good solid levels your health will be compromised further - unnecessarily.
With a TSH over 3 - I would think your immune system has now calmed down and not controlling your TSH and keeping it low/ suppressed and this phase of Graves over :
I doubt if the tests you mentioned are done in my country of residence
Thank you very much for your response
