Taking T3 advice please and menopause stuff

Hi everyone,

I’m on armour thyroid privately and just been prescribed T3 5mcg I think it is. My thyroid is much improved but my T3 could be a little higher but GP doesn’t want to increase the armour and push my T4 up any higher. I’m looking like a poorer converter. Anyway any advice on when to take the T3 please? I forgot to ask. I take 1 grain armour in the morning and wait 1 hour before coffee/food etc. And are there any side effects of T3 to be aware of before I start please?

Also I’m post menopause and my oestrogen is currently very low at 18 and testosterone is non existent too. I’ve now upped to 50mcg oestrogen patch to see if that helps with levels. If my sex hormones can be improved will that help my thyroid? I’m not feeling great but the GP said with no sex hormones in my system my symptoms are to be expected. I just feel extremely flat and can’t be bothered with things and my appetite is poor as I can’t really be bothered with food either. The GP said that was the lack of testosterone but I’m wanting to do things slowly and improve oestrogen before I think about adding that in as well.

I take my T3 I the morning with a full glass of water and with Levo and wait an hour before eating.

When first starting I halved the 5mcg daily and after a few days added the other half in the afternoon and a few weeks later took the 5 in the morning.

You can adjust and go slower if you don’t feel right, it can take some getting used to.

My prescriber says to try and stick with a new dose for at least 12 weeks to iron out the kinks and get stable so be sure to retest and monitor symptoms 🌱

You might find you get hungrier! Go for nutrient dense healthy foods 🌱

That would be a bonus as I just can’t be bothered with food somehow. It’s difficult to describe and I wasn’t sure if it’s a thyroid thing or a menopause thing or both. I want to improve my diet and look at cutting gluten and dairy and seeing if that helps but before I do that I need to stabilise things.

The HRT and thyroid hormones interact and affect each other so you will need to try and work out how you feel after each change and keep doing blood tests until you get the balance right. It can be tricky but sure you will get there. Best of luck.
