Just testing TSH is useless

You need TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 together

Plus folate, vitamin D and ferritin

What vitamin supplements are you taking

Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Only do private testing early Monday or Tuesday morning.

Sorry yes meant to add as these done too..T4 12.3 (9.01-19.05 pmol/L) T3 3.7 (2.63-5.70pmol/L)

Was test at around 9am and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test?

Free T4 (fT4) 12.3 pmol/L (9.01 - 19.05) 32.8%

Free T3 (fT3) 3.7 pmol/L (2.63 - 5.7) 34.9%

Assuming yes

Shows you are not on high enough dose levothyroxine

how much levothyroxine are you taking

How long at that dose

Are you ensuring you take same dose everyday and on empty stomach, then nothing but water for at least an hour after

Likely low vitamin levels

You need to test vitamin D, folate and ferritin

Exactly what vitamin supplements are you taking

Thanks for swift reply.Been on Levothyroxine since mid 30s?.

Am now 52.Always been o. 150mg but started 175mg TODAY (!) ..

I only took the taking it with water and an hour before breakfast serious about a year ago...usually had a cup of coffee very soon after...now decaf since Feb this year.

Had fomate and f also..these were

folate - 7.8 (3.10-20.50 ng/mL)

Ferritin 84 (20-204 ng/mL)

What are your thoughts on my liver function results?

I Didnt have vit D tested but I take D3 4000iu and K2 100iu each morning plusVit C 1000mg with zinc turmeric and black pepper and a b12 oral spray 1200iu and been doing this since pandemic more or less.I don't drink enough water as I forget to..how much is enough?I work outside as a Gardener.

I also take magnesium each night 440mg

When were folate and ferritin tested

Recently?

Ferritin is good

Folate is low

Suggest you add a good quality daily vitamin B complex

supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in (not folic acid)

This can help keep all B vitamins in balance and will help B12 levels too

Retest vitamin levels along with thyroid levels 6-8 weeks after increasing levothyroxine

once your serum B12 is over 500 (or Active B12 level has reached 70), you may be able to reduce then stop the B12 and just carry on with the B Complex.

If you have been taking separate B12, likely to be able to do this after next test

B vitamins best taken after breakfast

Igennus B complex popular option. Nice small tablets. Most people only find they need one per day. But a few people find it’s not high enough dose and may need separate methyl folate couple times a week

Post discussing different B complex

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

Thorne Basic B recommended vitamin B complex that contains folate, but they are large capsules. (You can tip powder out if can’t swallow capsule) Thorne can be difficult to find at reasonable price, should be around £20-£25. iherb.com often have in stock. Or try ebay

IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 5-7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results

endo.confex.com/endo/2016en...

endocrinenews.endocrine.org...

In week before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate folate supplement (eg Jarrow methyl folate 400mcg) and continue separate B12 until B12 over 500 (or Active B12 over 70)
