I have been feeling unwell lately, extreme exhaustion, weigh loss 7% and various other symptoms. I have a thyroid nodule that is 2.7cm

my tsh was 1.2

T4 12

Mean corpusc. haemoglobin(MCH) 31.8

Serum transferrin 1.87

Serum adjusted calcium conc 2.3

Erythrocyte sedimentation rate 2

HbA1c(diagnos ref rnge)IFCC st: 38

everything else seems well in range on other tests results.

I know some of these are in range but I feel awful.

I have ordered a medicheck test to check thyroid antibody’s so hoping that will help.

Any advise appreciated

Please add reference ranges for FT4 inparticlar. Ranges vary between labs so are important to quote.

Do you have any vitamin results - ferritin, folate, B12 & D3?

Often low vitamin levels can affect TSH level so its good to check them as well as thyroid hormones.

What time did you have this thyroid test taken? TSH varies throughout the day and is highest at 9am or earlier.

TSH would have been much higher testing at 8-9am

Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test (if on levothyroxine last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test )

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

I’m not taking any vitamin supplements as I didn’t want it to interfere with any blood tests

TSH varies throughout the day, its highest at 9am or earlier. Your TSH would have been higher had you tested earlier in the day.

For your Medichecks test, test at 9am, fasting and no biotin supplement (usually a B complex) for 4-7 days before the test.

Your vitamins arent too bad, although B12 is a serum test and isnt as accurate as an active B12 test.

The doctors should say take the blood test in the morning. I done my medichecks blood test at 7am I should have the results of that any day now.

Doctors often dont pay any attention to these details or even know about them which is where patient groups like this come in. :)

So sorry to hear you’re feeling unwell. Have you considered that there may be something else causing this? Ie emotional stress etc?

In my experience (of previously being diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis and Hashimotos) both were preceded by very stressful events. I only reversed UC and managed symptoms of Hashis when I got to the root of what was causing them to begin with.
