In an ideal world, everyone would get the exact thyroid medication that they need on prescription from their GP, endo. private practitioner etc. Whether that be for a short term trial, or for long term quality of life.

Unfortunately, in the UK at least, this all too often doesn't happen. We know that members of this community frequently end up resorting to obtaining their thyroid medications from non-prescription sources.

UK law does allow UK citizens to obtain medications without prescription, but only from sources outside of the UK. (If you are in the UK, you cannot legally source prescription medications from within the UK without a prescription).

Unfortunately, this creates opportunities for unscrupulous people to scam us. 💸

Scammers take your money, but never supply the medications you've ordered.

Or they may even send fake medications.

-------

💊 If you are looking for a reliable source, you can write a post asking for recommendations from other members.

Your post will be closed to replies by an admin, to comply with forum posting guideline:

28. Do not post advertisements, links or information of any sort whatsoever, on where or how to obtain UK prescription only medications without prescription. healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

The admin will emphasise in the closing post comment, that any recommendations MUST be sent to the poster by PM (private message / Chat) only. So sit back and wait for other members to contact you by message with their suggestions.

--------

⚠️ IMPORTANT! When you receive a message with a recommendation, please do not assume it is genuine!

Scammers are joining the forum on a very regular basis and messaging members with their assertions that they have successfully purchased xyz medication from zyx source.

First, do check the profile of the member that sent you the message. (You can find their profile by searching for their name in the member list here healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

Are they a long term member with an active forum posting history? (Just be cautious and check with admin)

Or are they a recently joined member with little or no posting history? (Do be very suspicious and check with admin)

**** Scammers even join our forum and post a 'fake' story about their thyroid experiences, that may also include mention of self sourcing their thyroid meds. This is to encourage members to ask them where they purchase their medication without prescription.****

-------

Once you have what you hope is a genuine recommendation, you are strongly encouraged to message an Admin to ask whether the admin team have any feedback on the source you've been given.

Please also tell admin the member name/s that messaged you so that we can check them out if necessary.

Admins are not allowed to recommend sources, but we can tell you what, if any, feedback we've received about the source you've been given.

⚠️ Don't part with your much needed money until you are as sure as you can be that the source is genuine.

Thankyou for the advice. It’s easy to be caught up in the moment. So it’s good to follow the steps that you suggest.

For 24 years (except a few when an endo actually said I need T3 and prescribed it, but it stopped when price was hiked and never prescribed after) I have had to source my own T3. Round about late 2018 a friend who I talk to regularly on phone and not a scammer told me about a source of T3 from the UK that he had heard of. So I thought I would try it, hoping to be less hassle than buying it from abroad. The bottle looked exactly the same as the bottles I had been using for years. So I used that T3. After a couple of months I became really ill with a pain in my back so bad I could not stand, or walk. It really was horrendous. It was only when my GP did a blood test that I saw my TSH had risen to 1.8 from 0.01 and both T3 and T4 below range. Idiot doctor said it could not be my thyroid because TSH was within range. I took a T3 tablet from an older bottle not supplied by this UK supplier, and within an hour my pain had gone completely. GP put back strain on my records. I suppose just like they make fake perfume in a similar bottle to the original, or fake other products that look just like the real thing, these people had obviously made fake T3 bottles, with goodness knows what the tablets were, but they were not T3.

Thank you so much for this information, it is so easy to be scammed these days. This is a great bit of advice RedApple.

Thank you for this Great Important Post. It's Tragic that thyroid patients have to resort to get thyroid hormones from advantage taking sources instead of getting the thyroid hormones from Dr's. It just doesn't make any sense. On the flip side Dr's are eager to prescribe all sorts of other meds. Readily without a blink of an eye. In fact in my opinion thyroid hormones should be readily available over the counter without any scripts. I hope that enough pressure put will change all the hardships that thyroid patients have to go through to feel deservedly their very Best.
