Hi,I was recently diagnosed with multi nodule goitre as I had a lump on neck and extreme fatigue. I have been back and forth to the Gp as I don't feel myself.
Blood results were
Vitamin D 16nmol/L
Serum TSH 0.947mlu/L 5thApril
0.449mlu/L 20th June
Serum Feratin 24ug/L
Eosinophils 0.66
Basophils 0.1
Gp says everything except Vitamin D is normal and no other investigations needed.
Any advice please
Thankyou

They never are interested in thyroid or nutrition. That's because they know nothing about either of them. They do not understand how both can impact our health.
Vit D is very, very important for your bones - and your Gp should know that! It is far too low, so what is your GP doing about it? Is he giving you loading doses? Because that's what he should be doing, along with magnesium and vit K2-MK7.
TSH is a pituitary hormone that is secreted when the pituitary senses that there is not enough thyroid hormone in your blood. Your TSH is saying that you don't have a thyroid problem, but the pituitary is not always right! Just testing the TSH tells you next to nothing about your thyroid status. You also need FT3 and FT4 and antibodies tested, but the NHS won't do that because they would find themselves obliged to diagnose too many people with thyroid disorders, and that is what they're trying to avoid. An awful lot of people have to get private testing to find out what is really going on.
Ferritin is your iron stores, and yours is much too low. Should be at least 100. So, your doctor should be doing a full iron panel to find out why.
I don't know about the other things but that's enough to be getting on with.
So, what do you do if your doctor is unhelpful? You make a nuisance of yourself until he has to taken notice in order to get rid of you! Keep at hm! He's being negligent. He should not be allowed to get away with it. You want him to do an iron panel and you want it now!
Ask your GP for a further appointment to "discuss your results". He probably has not even read them - far too busy for stuff like that! If you dont get any joy there, ask to speak to the practice manager to see if there is another GP who can help. Your results are dire and you must feel dreadful! You need T3 and T4 tests to actually know what is going on with your thyroid, so I would recommend doing this privately if you can afford it, as the NHS does not like to do t3 - the actual hormone your body is using right now.
Dont start on the iron intake until they have tested you for anemia, but start bunging Vit D as fast as you can. There is a fair bit about dosing with this here, and I am still learning. The GP put me on 4000 units but I am dosing on 20,000 units which seems huge but is beginning to make a difference. On 4000 units it would take a year to feel better!
GPs are supposed to work in partnership with you. Yours has let you down badly. Hope you get it sorted and feel better soon.
Morning everyone, thank you for your comments. I realise I haven't given all of the information so apologies for that. The gp did prescribe D3 20,000 capsules on 9th April for vitamin D for 2 months. Finished that so they won't re check. No tests taken for B12 or folate, not in any results that I can see anyway.
Scan on neck says, thyroid generous in size contains several multi nodular goitres average size 30mm. One lump is visible on right side and it is very tender.
So now your GP prescription for vit D has finished you will need to buy your own supplement to continue, otherwise your level will drop straight back to where it was initially.
What supplements are you taking?
Vitamin D should be around 100 - 150. Buy one that includes vit K2 to help it go to your bones. Some are available in oil or you can take it with an oily meal for better absorption. Many members like the ‘Better You’ range of mouth sprays that contain both bit D & K2. Use this calculator to work out how much to take to get your level to 100-150.grassrootshealth.net/projec...
Suggest you buy your own test to get the results you need.
