I'll now go and confess to Wwwdot ... :-)

Adding:

The video makes much mention of thyroid issues and iron deficiency and folate levels.

Just noticed the claim that those with the AA variant of rs601338 in FUT2 are likely to show higher serum B12 than others and, potentially, mislead - with us into thinking our levels are OK when they are not.

My (very old) 23andme shows I have this variant.

That's very interesting helvella..what sort of kevels were yr b12 when u gad symptoms?Mine were high 200's when i discovered low Active b12 & high MMA, and this time around I had pretty severe symptoms and it was 608

.I'm looking forward to.watching the video. Have recently seen a gene test regarding methylation mentiined on Food for the Brain online, I wonder if that variant is tested in there too...Will.take a look later..

I've mostly been supplementing from long before my B12 was ever tested.

I really cannot be certain of my B12 status at all - just that at a certain point, I saw B12 mentioned for nerve damage and took some. And found I felt better regarding a nerve issue. So kept on doing so.

I added that bit in as a pointer for others to follow for themselves - rather than something that had directly affected me.

I see, great that you came across it and has helped with your nerve issue. And a very handy pointer it is! So many people with b12 deficiencies that don't always fit into certain ranges or boxes, so another step forward in helping us understand if they can identify potential genes...thank you

Incredibly informative - I’d go as far as saying essential viewing. Thanks for posting.

can having B12 injections harm you?

My results always come back in range but I suspect that it’s not good enough . It is about 415 top of range 640 but the areas I used to get tingling now have a numb sort of sensation

There is little evidence of harm from B12 injections.

Bear in mind that the doses used after cyanide exposure are absolutely gigantic! Five grams. And a standard injection is one milligram. So equivalent to five thousand times the usual injected dose.

A few people are less tolerant of cobalt - which raises huge difficulties. But this seems to be quite rare.

Do you supplement regularly?

hydroxycolbamin is what I’m told is used . Is that the same as colbolt?

Do you self inject and also take folic acid

Cobalt is the metal of which each molecule of B12 has a single atom in its middle.

But B12 produced industrially has a tiny bit of extra cobalt in vats.

If you are one of the very rare people who are hypersensitive to cobalt, that is the problem. It is hoped that newer processes can be developed which pretty much eliminates any excess cobalt at all.

Have a brief look at the Wiki page and particularly the diagrams.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitam...

There are four forms of cobalamin. Hydroxocobalamin. Adenosylcobalamin. Cyanocobalamin. Methylcobalamin.

In the UK, injections are almost always Hydroxocobalamin. But in some countries, such as the USA, Cyanocobalamin is usual. Other forms are rarely injected.

I do not inject B12. There is far more awareness of injecting B12 on the Pernicious Anaemia Society forum:
