Latest blood results help please

Serum folate 9.2ug/L [3.1 - 20.5]

B12 420 ng/ L [187.0 - 883.0 ]

Ana (Elisa) screen 0.3 [0.0-1.0]

Serum urate 322 umol [140.0 - 360.0 ]

Serum TSH 1.59 [0.35 - 4.94]

HbAlc Alc level - IFCC 41 mmol / mol [<48.0]

Serum ferritin 278 ug/L [23.0 - 300.0]

These are my latest results, done after my blue horizon ones, cause gp wouldnt read the private ones.

Health centre told me that they wouldnt refer me to a private endo, because my levels are normal/within range, and it would be a waste if time as an endo would refuse to see me.

At a loss to know what to do now, apart from registering with a different health centre, if private endos only accept people via gp refferal 😕

Will have to go it alone now, by the looks of it.

I see you are taking an iron supplement with B12 and folic acid. Obviously it isn't enough for you so you probably also need a B complex.

See previous recommendations here: healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

B complex suggestions: Slightly cheaper options with inactive B6:

amazon.co.uk/Liposomal-Soft...

Contains B6 as P5P an active form:

Not all Endo's need a referral. Phone their secretaries to ask them.

Send for list of Endo's from Thyroid UK. email info@thyroiduk.org

You could also try Roseway Pharmacy prescribing service that is cheap and doesn't require a referral.

Im taking a B complex recommended on here. I stopped taking iron supplement, as advised on here to have a blood test to check need. I'll look into the list suggestion, thank you. Plus, the Roseway route. Ive seen it nentioned on here before. Thank you for the info on them.

Which B complex do you take? If its the igennus you need to take 2 tablets a day rather than one as your results arent yet optimal.

you MUST test TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 together

cheapest is Monitor My Health

Just TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 test - £32

monitormyhealth.org.uk/thyr...

10% off code here

thyroiduk.org/testing/priva...

Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Post all about what time of day to test

I did a blue horizon test, before I had the nhs one done, but my gp refused to read it, but he said he would do a blood test, so I have readings for both tests. I am not taking iron tablets, havent for a couple of months now.

Last TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 test in late 2023 shows very low Ft3

Time to retest

Both antibodies below range

Shows your hypothyroidism is not apparently autoimmune

You probably want ultrasound scan to check

20% of Hashimoto's patients never have raised antibodies

Gluten intolerance is often a hidden issue too.

Request coeliac blood test BEFORE considering trial on strictly gluten free diet

DEFINITELY get full iron panel test

Stop iron supplement now

Never supplement iron without doing full iron panel test for anaemia first and retest 3-4 times a year if self supplementing.

It’s possible to have low ferritin but high iron

Test early morning, only water to drink between waking and test. Avoid high iron rich dinner night before test

Stop iron supplements 5-7 days before testing

Roughly where in U.K. are you re seeing thyroid specialist for prescription of T3 alongside levothyroxine

Here’s link for how to request Thyroid U.K.list of private Doctors emailed to you, but within the email a link to download list of recommended thyroid specialist endocrinologists who will prescribe T3

Ideally choose an endocrinologist to see privately initially and who also does NHS consultations

how old are you approximately

Pre or post menopause?

At a loss to know what to do now, apart from registering with a different health centre, if private endos only accept people via gp refferal

If you want to see an Endo privately and the Endo requires letter of referral from GP, that’s a formality with private consultation

GP would find it difficult to refuse. You might have to pay for GP to write letter (though unlikely)

Some endos on thyroid uk list states that they do not need a gp referral, which is handy, so will probably approach one of those. Two drs, and a paramedic at my health centre refused to refer me, as it will be a waste of time - my levels are "normal /satisfactory", and no endo would be happy to see me. So I will have to try by myself. Thank you for Your support though. Really appreciate it.
