Waste of time at new Endo

Hi all just thought I'd UPDATE after my daughters visit with the new Endo. On a scale of 1-10. I rate him a 2!

The nurse took her BP and asked weight & hgt. Then the Dr walks in , says ok let's look at labs , remarked all look good. Daughter goes on to say she's put on weight despite working out and feels extra hungry, He then talks bout Ozempic she replies she's ambivalent due to the thyca risk. He quickly assured w stats the side effects and what he's seen. Then he looks at her ultrasound results, she has been followed for 10 years w multiple nodules. Two were biopsied in 2018 benign , and a 2.0 was biopsied 6/23 which went for molecular and result was " no gene mutations detected, less than 1% malignancy". So that particular nodule has increased AGAIN, up to 2.8 so he orders another biopsy,

I say I was reading a study Metformin' has been shown to shrink , he cuts me off to say not true, just like alcohol injections, do not work. Then my daughter says well these are growing he says very common. Says go get 2 biopsied ( both previously biop) otherwise nothing new.

So then she asks for a cbc and iron panel, he looks up and says," don't you have a primary?" At that moment I realized I'm not challenging this arrogant man on why he only ordered TSH, FTI, and antibodies. So w script for biopsy in hand he said I'll call w biopsy results see you in 6 mo!

Ok he did assure her he doubts a molecular tested benign nodule tested less than a year ago would be malignant but of course my daughter is so upset . He would not entertain me remarking about RFA either, He did not care about how my daughter was saying she was gaining weight and fatigue, he said oh your tsh is low almost hyper!

It was a waste of her sick day off, now the biopsy is Monday and daughter is so anxious. I told her get it done then we will go to another Dr. And we also have 3 RFA physicians in mind .

So that's it, no answers, "Nodules are common, try Ozempic" What a terrible endocrinologist! Thank you to all who even read this long post.

By the way we live in US, NY.

First of all - worst feeling ever. To be so anxious, then dismissed, and to try to ask for things and leave with nothing you need.

Also - absolutely disgusting to bring up Ozempic.

THE WORST. But … we play the long game here!

So - next steps?

Assuming you have no blood test Rx?

Sorry you had such poor experience

Get FULL thyroid including TPO and TG antibodies and vitamin testing

What vitamin supplements is she taking

Always test thyroid early morning, ideally only drinking water between waking and test

Thanks all. She does take Biotin 10,000 mcg. But hadn't always and tsh has been on low side for many years! She takes a multi no iodine, she mostly organic and eats clean. As far as next step, she def wants to do biopsy ( tomorrow) praying both are still benign. After that a new endo😑, my poor daughter looked so defeated at the Dr. He really was so awful, I waited for her to say it ( in car) then I chimed in. My daughter is anxious to begin with since a traumatic birth in 2021 and not so great pregnancy( pre eclampsia). She needs help with her health and we hitting brick wall. She is trying to just get thru this biopsy AGAIN.

She also has a very stressful job , she's a School District Doctoral level Psychologist, so stress is really high . Thank you all for the replies Oh her tpo and thyroglobulin antibodies are negative.

So that’s a massive dose biotin.

Make sure she stops this at least a week before all blood tests

Traumatic birth

Did she loose a lot of blood. Did she manage to breast feed.

Has anyone assessed her for Sheehan syndrome

Yes lost liters of blood, was transfused. Did not breast feed was told due to bp meds . Her prolactin was checked all normal. I was reading about Sheehans , I'll read again. Oh her Tpo was bout 50 for about a year but now no antibodies. What else would Sheehans show?
