Just heard:

Finally, I am pleased to say, that the wait for further strengths of Vencamil (Levothyroxine Aristo) will be coming to an end. I’ll confirm more accurate timings nearer the time but, I can confirm that the 25mcg, 50 mcg and 75mcg strengths should be available in pharmacy (and listed on GP prescribing systems) towards the end of August this year.

Shame that is still a way off but good to have confirmation of a date window. Immediately in my calendar - have just used 21st as a proxy for end of August. :-)

Yippee! (How ridiculous is it to get excited about the arrival of thyroid hormone tablets 🙃)

First time an alternative 75.

And I believe all will be readily splittable (by finger pressure) which opens up the possibility of 12.5 as half a 25 and 37.5 as half a 75 and in combinations thereof to achieve multiple doses that can otherwise be difficult to get. (MHRA will not support splitting, I'm sure, but argue as alternate day dosing, if needed.)

I've finally got Vencamil in 100s but the 25 had to be Mercury Pharma never had before so will monitor closely over next two months. My update coming soon from 1st endo chat, I might have low cortisol.

Hi Is mercury pharma levothryoxine without monnitol and lactose. My GP threw a fit when I asked him to prescribe me Levothroxine without monnitol and lactose, he said I need to find out the medicine's name. I am Teva levothyroxine but i get frequent urination which my GP seems to think is normal .

helvella profile image
helvellaAdministratorThyroid UK in reply to thyroidsymtoms

Advanz (Mercury Pharma) levothyroxine contains lactose.

The ONLY UK levothyroxine which has NEITHER lactose NOR mannitol is Aristo Vencamil. And that is currently only available in 100 microgram dosage.

helvella - Thyroid Hormone Medicines - UK

The UK document contains up-to-date versions of the Summary Matrixes for levothyroxine tablets, oral solutions and also liothyronine available in the UK. Includes descriptions of tablet markings which allow identification. Latest updates include all declared ingredients for all UK products and links to Patient Information Leaflets, etc.

Hi Helvella

Many thanks for the document. Though I find it difficult to find from the document which Levothyroxine is lactose and mannitol free. I searched and found Aristo vencamil is mannitol and lactose free but only available in 100mg packing.

It quite bit of a struggle to convince my GP to increase my dose, he claims to suggest TSH 3.81 is normal and my symptoms of cold hands and frequent urination is also normal. He refused T3 medication and has refused testing T4 claiming NHS does not allow and refused referral to endocrinologist. If share NICE guidance he claims those just recommendation and expericence is more important.

With great difficulty and tantrums, he has agreed to increase my dose to 75 mg but advised if i know the does without mannitol and lactose then I should advise him.

If is not to much trouble and if you can please advise, which Levothyroxine brands in UK are mannitol and lactose-free in 75 mcg or a combination which make up 75 mg without both.

What can I do to make it easier for you? A real question because I want it to provide the answer people need - quickly and easily.

I don't tend to post the image as above because, when things change, the information goes out of date. But it really isn't viable for me to return and update posts/replies. Far better to view the current document! :-)

I seem to be ok with the mercury Pharma however not doing to good with the reduction alternate 100/125 so have requested to go back to 125 daily seems to suit they'll probably wait till blood tests those are on Tuesday again endo concerned re TSH levels & my cortisol is low so I've a ACTH stim test next month. My GP has be accommodating re brands but I struggle with chemists so now have a prescription online so I can check local chemists to see who has my brand a pain but saves hassle in the end. Good luck finding yours.

My GP refused a referral to Endo. He has just does not want any accountability and want me to self medicate. He has even refused T4 blood test claiming NHS does not do T4 test any more even though my T4 test was done in august 2023. He initially said he will look at T3 when i told him about nice guidance but in the last appointment he scoffed at NICE's recommendation stating NICE is just a recommendation and can not trump experience. This was supposed to be my new and better gp assigned to me in Nov 2023 after I complained in Aug about my last GP who used to brand everything as depression and anxiety and would never agree on any blood test.

Oh dear it looks like they're not happy with you & it's becoming personal I really hope the situation changes for you. My GP was worried about TSH levels (silly man) so that's why I was refered(30+ years hypothyroid) only I've complicated it as it's in another NHS trust 🤦 & the endo only does phone appointment which I've now asked if I can see someone on face to face due to tinnitus can't always hear & comprehend. A minefield being hypothyroid good luck on your journey & hopefully you'll find another up to date GP 😳

I think you'd be better of discussion either on one or your existing posts - or a new post. Adding onto older general posts like this means your replies are likely to be missed.

That's good news helvella 👍 I've just been prescribed that, 100 micrograms tablets, I've to take 25micrograms first so splitting the 100.. But I'm going slower than 25micrograms due to gastric issues doing 12.5 using my cutter, although it's OK cutting the 100 tablets it can be a pain at times😣 so this should be very much easier, when I actually get to take them in 5 days time👍

helvella profile image
helvellaAdministratorThyroid UK in reply to birkie

I appreciate the splitting into 25, etc., requires a cutter of some sort. But are you aware that the first split can be done by thumb pressure alone?

(This is not approved by the MHRA in the UK but appears in many other countries.)

birkie in reply to helvella

Never knew that, but I've just been prescribed them, started them on Monday, but due to another round of botched thyroid blood tests at my surgery I've now to stop them for 10 days until they leave my system and get bloods done again 🤦 I'm really hoping these ones work and I have no gastric issues 🤞🤞🙏🙏🙏🙏

This is great news, though I shan't be enlightening my GP/ Endo/ Dispensary as I use the fact that Vencamil is only available in 100mcg to my advantage 🤐😁
