Myo-inositol increasing TSH?

Hello, wondering if anyone has experience of taking myo-inositol and any impact on their TSH please?

I’ve been taking it for 4 months for PCOS, TSH was 1.1 just before I started and is now 4.8 (T3 and T4 within range). I read up on it before I started and the (limited) research indicated it could be beneficial but I didn’t find anything suggesting it could have a negative effect. It’s quite a big leap in a short time when my thyroid has been relatively well behaved the last couple of years! I could stop taking it but we’re ttc and it’s been helping with the PCOS issues. Many thanks 😊

Were your blood tests taken at the same time of day? They need to be early, about 9am, with only water and no food or meds before the test.

TSH varies during the day so you can't compare a morning test with an afternoon test. Unfortunately most doctors and nurses don't know this.

Thanks for your message, they were both done first thing in the morning and fasted

Well done - you can rule that out then.

I see that there are several 'Related Posts' which mention Myo-Inositol.

Interesting. What brand do you take?

Do you take any selenium with it?

It was Inofolic Alpha. I stopped it, got retested after 6 weeks and TSH had come down to 2.1 so it must have been that unfortunately.

It is possible that your TSH has gone up for a different reason and it's just a coincidence that you started taking myo-inositol in this period. I've been taking myo-inositol for about 9 months now and never noticed any change in my TSH.

Thank you for your comment, so sorry I’ve only just seen it. That’s interesting, I’m due another thyroid test soon so that will help me tell if it was the myo-inositol. Even though I only took it for 4 months, touch wood my periods seem to have regulated since. How are you getting on with it?

Hi, I can't say I noticed any changes. They say you can take myo-inositol for fertility, regular period, weight loss. Don't know if I've had any of these effects but at least it's not making things worse :). I see you're saying it helped with your periods, which is a good sign. I'm taking metformin for my period.

Not what you're looking for?
