Reporting Private Messages

Private Messages (also called Chat) have two options on the right hand side of each comment. Report and Mute.

This is to allow you to report any abuse or other concerning messages you may receive via the Private Message system. Just click on Report.

Then select the reason for your report. And add any comments you wish - these are VERY important as it is often not immediately obvious why you are reporting the Private Message.

These reports go straight to HealthUnlocked *only* who should take appropriate action.

Remember that people who send Private Messages might not be members of Thyroid UK. Admins can do NOTHING AT ALL about people sending Private Messages if they are not current members of Thyroid UK. Even if they are members, admins can do very little.

Remember also that these people often create multiple new members. And, sometimes, the differences in the names are tiny. So keep on reporting every such Private Message you get.

If you feel you also need to inform Thyroid UK admins, you can go to the list of Moderation Team members here:

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

Remember that an individual member might not be available to act on such messages promptly - or at all.

Or you can send a group message to all moderators here:

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

Scroll down to the blue Contact us and click on that.

But please only send messages to moderators if you feel it is important. Or, for example, if your report to HU didn't get the required action.

If you get more than one message, please report each of them.

If you are getting unwanted Private Messages you also have the option of applying Mute to individual senders. See image in a reply below.

In general, do NOT write a post. The reason for this is that many things like this are sent to hundreds or thousands of members. Imagine if everyone posts? In particular, check recent posts to see if anyone else has posted before making a post.

If you DO nevertheless decide to write a post, be aware that post will be deleted when the issues have been resolved.

If anyone of these people follow you, when the offender gets banned from HU, all following will also disappear.

If you can access the member's profile, for example bu clicking on the member's name or icon/avatar, you can ALSO report their profile. I'd hope it was not necessary but it might make us feel better by doing so! :-)

Muting members means they will no longer be able to send you Private Messages. The primary reason for using this option is to stop getting any further messages - whether abusive or just annoying - from an individual member.

Text of the Mute option:

Mute this user?

Muting will prevent you seeing any future messages from [ Member name ].

You may still see their messages in group chats.
