Has anyone else noticed that there's been a change today. At least as it appears on my PC, you can no longer search against a member's name, which seems the most obvious and rational way to find someone, but can only look at a list of members in chronological order, and only in the order of newest first, by choosing the "NEW" option (the other option is Admins and Moderators as before - or was it labelled just Admins previously, I can't remember, but in essence that bit is the same) which seems utterly bonkers. So if you remembered reading something useful by a member you think was called say Mary1234 and wanted to track her down but weren't sure about the exact name, you could begin typing Mary in the member search, and all the members with names similar, would appear on the screen for you to choose from. Now all you've got is the chronological list dating from most recent, back - what use is that to anyone? I can't think why anyone would contemplate trawling through 99,000 members in the hope of finding the one being looked for. Am I missing something here?
A change in how the Member Search function works - Thyroid UK
A change in how the Member Search function works
I hadn't noticed this change - until you mentioned it.
How utterly stupid, pointless, illogical and absurd the page is now!
Yes I noticed it a little while ago and wondered why change a system that worked for something so useless.
Please can everyone who doesn't like this new system contact support and ask them to rethink this
I'm obviously missing something. I just did a search on LAHs and got a big fat zero! Maybe it's trying to tell me something.
Oh, thanks for responding. Actually no, I didn't go to "Members". I went to the general search top right. So I just tried "Members", but then where do you enter the name, I tried top right within the "Members" page, but just got the "not found" prompt. So where should I put the name after I am in Members?
Ah, I thought you had. That's what we're complaining about - they've taken the members search option away
Oh, OK, got it. How strange, why would you ever want to know the chronological order of members? I rarely do that sort of search anyway but you would like to think you end up somewhere sensible if you did. I can't even imagine the logic which drove this method. If you are thinking about a person/name you are thinking in letters not numbers. The date they joined may be a minuscule curiosity but you usually think just three things, recent, old timer or "middle", no-one really needs the exact date - and you can get that after you have found the name.
I agree with you, it's pretty silly.
Also, the final entry in the sort (last entry on page 500) joined in April 8th 2017. Something is seriously screwed up.
Yes, it occurred to me that if there are only 500 pages, with 12 members on each, that's very definitely nowhere near 99,064 members. Truly odd!
But if you go to the 500th page and the last member listed, they only joined in 2018. And the forum had been going many years before then!
Yes, I'm awaiting an explanation to this madness from HU, with baited breath ...... Perhaps they've had a Bring Your Pet to work day, and someone's cat stomped all over a keyboard when a file was open .........
I had a response to my email, it appears that they're making some technical improvements to the site.
The new members page that we've noticed today is not complete, it's just the first version of it and there are plans for more improvements that will make it easier to search for members.
So hopefully, when the improvements have been finalised it will be better than the old version, in the meantime we just need to be patient while they work on it
Thanks for that update SS. I've now had a similar reply. I wonder if the technical improvements are the reason for the forum been unworkable on my iPad since yesterday morning onwards, although okay on my PC. It nevertheless seems odd that they put a new function, especially a search facility, into live operation, when it's at a stage of not even having a search option, instead of running it on a dummy system until it's fully ready to be launched.
Yes, I once accidentally hit "publish" on my website with something absolutely stupid on it. I was in a panic and had to work on it way into the night to get it back to looking vaguely sensible. I could hear the world laughing at me!
