Liothyronine Thybon-Henning Private Prescriptions

Hi everyone

Thought it might be helpful (as there's not a lot on detailed info on the forum having searched) for those who used to get their private T3 (Thybon-Henning) prescriptions from Chemist4U (who are still not filling private prescriptions as of an email from them yesterday) Thought it might be helpful to share what I found out in terms of process, timescales and cost.

I contacted Roseway labs and Smartway Pharmacy.

ROSEWAY LABS

Roseway will now only give you a quote via their online portal which you have to sign up to and send a copy of the prescription. Their website still says to email it, which is a bit annoying as this isn't correct and I wasted a day waiting for them to respond to tell me to do it a different way. They won't tell you over the phone. Anyhow, their online portal is here:

After sending my request via their online portal I didn't get a response so chased them on the second working day. I was told that they would process my request when I called.

I still didn't get an email or any notification later that day so I eventually thought "maybe you just log into the portal" and lo and behold it was there and it looked like it had been there since the day I requested a quote! Not sure why you don't get a notification, that seems a bit of failure in the system. Anyhow, they oddly quoted me for BOTH generic T3 and Thybon-Henning so my quote was £255 which was a bit of shock initially until I realised what they had done. I assume I could have resolved this by calling them, but I decided to go with Smartway in the end, so can't confirm how this would have worked in practice.

Roseway have told me they are currently charging £60 for 100 tablets plus delivery. Delivery options are:

Standard if orders are £50.01 and above - Free

Standard if orders are £50 and below = £4.98

Next Day Delivery 1 pm = £10.98

Next Day Delivery 9 am £19.98

When I asked how long it would take to process the prescription they said send you a payment link and then dispatch the medication "as soon as possible" which isn't hugely helpful when you are running short of medication!

SMARTWAY

I phoned Smartway on 0208 545 7731. The person I spoke to gave me a quote over the phone.

They told me their current price is £65 for 100 tablets. They don't charge for delivery, although I note online you can get faster delivery options by paying extra.

You send the prescription to Smartway Pharma Ltd, 10 Lyon Road, London, SW19 2RL.

You need to write your phone number on the back.

When they receive it, they said they'll call you for payment, and then send out the meds to you next working day. Online however, I noted that it says they send you a link. I've therefore given both my phone number and email address to be sure they have what they need and avoid any delays.

I decided to go with Smartway as although their quote was slightly higher, the whole process of dealing with them was way easier and, most importantly, they gave me a exact timescale on processing the prescription. I note online that they send the medication via a tracked service and you have to sign for it. This may not suit people therefore who are working and aren't always in.

Hope that helps someone, as I know it's a faff trying to contact everyone using their different methods and get the information you need, especially if you are feeling unwell and/or you are on a tight timescale due to needing a refill. I'll update with my experience on using Smartway!

Just to add that I use Smartway via my private doctor, and I've always found them very good. I just email when I need a repeat, and within an hour usually I get a link for payment, and if it's early enough they dispatch the same day. They use DPD (no additional charge, so I wouldn't bother with any 'fast track' shipping on the website unless you absolutely need the next day), and I've always got the tabs within 2 days of ordering.

Thanks for posting. That’s good to know! So do you just email your repeat prescriptions to them, they don’t ask for the hard copy by post?

My doctor sends the prescriptions straight through to Smartway, and they just add more repeats when I run out, so not sure, but I would imagine they just need an email copy if you're doing it yourself.

Thanks for sharing, very helpful. I didn't know about smart way, sounds straightforward.

However how do you go about a private prescription. I'm hypo 30 years.

I get my private prescription via my endocrinologist who I see privately. Private GPs also issue private prescriptions. You can get a list of private endos and GPs that are receptive to issuing certain thyroid medications where appropriate from Thyroid U.K. My endo is excellent. Happy to PM you his details if you would like?
