I have just had my latest blood results, and wonder if I could ask for your opinion, as to whether these results look ok, or do I need to change the doses. I am taking 125 of thyroxine and 15 of T3 split x 3 taken on waking, lunchtime and bedtime

Blood sample taken as per your protocol.

Still not feeling great, tiring easily

Thanks so much for any help given

It looks to me as if your T3 dose might be a little high. Have you thought of reducing just a little?

Yes I thought I was a little over, wasn’t sure which to reduce. Slow dragon has kindly suggested I reduce thyroxine, so I will try that and retest in 8 weeks. Thank you

Looking at previous posts I don’t think you have tested iron and ferritin for a while

full iron panel test for anaemia

It’s possible to have low ferritin but high iron or vice versa

Test early morning, only water to drink between waking and test. Avoid high iron rich dinner night before test

Too much thyroid hormone can make you feel tired

You look a bit over medicated

Perhaps reduce levothyroxine a small amount

112.5mcg two days a week and 125mcg 5 days

Retest in 8 weeks

This should lower Ft3 a bit too

Ferritin is lowish

Suggest you get full iron panel test

Look at increasing iron rich foods in diet

Eating iron rich foods like liver or liver pate once a week plus other red meat, pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate, plus daily orange juice or other vitamin C rich drink can help improve iron absorption

This is interesting because I have noticed that many patients with Hashimoto’s disease and hypothyroidism, start to feel worse when their ferritin drops below 80 and usually there is hair loss when it drops below 50.

Never supplement iron without doing full iron panel test for anaemia first and retest 3-4 times a year if self supplementing.
