My tsh is always suppressed as I’m on Liothyronine and I’ve had a Dexa scan which was okay.
They’ve said the T4 annd T3 are abnormal which I don’t understand.
I was waiting for these results to see someone privately as my GP said she can’t agree to the 25mcg increase of Levothyroxine without an endocrinologist’s approval.
I’m taking 100mcg Levothyroxine and 20mcg (split dose) Liothyronine.
My results in November 2023 were:
Plasma free T4 level 9.1 pmol/L [7.7 - 15.11) Reported as borderline by NHS lab
Plasma TSH level < 0.01 mu/L [0.34 - 5.6]
Plasma free triiodothyronine level 5.6 pmol/L [4.3 - 6.8] Reported as Borderline by NHS lab
Based on these results am I wasting my time seeing someone privately?
I feel much better for the increase but to be honest felt like I could increase it more. Based on those results I don’t think I can.
Thanks

Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)
T3 ….day before test split T3 as 2 or 3 smaller doses spread through the day, with last dose approximately 8-12 hours before test
Testing options and includes money off codes for private testing
With serum B12 result below 500, (Or active B12 below 70) recommended to be taking a separate B12 supplement
A week later add a separate vitamin B Complex
Then once your serum B12 is over 500 (or Active B12 level has reached 70), you may be able to reduce then stop the B12 and just carry on with the B Complex.
If Vegetarian or vegan likely to need ongoing separate B12 few times a week
IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results
In week before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate folate supplement (eg Jarrow methyl folate 400mcg) and continue separate B12
Post discussing how biotin can affect test results
I took 10mcg Liothyronine with 100mcg Levothyroxine at 6am yesterday morning then took another 10mcg Liothyronine just after 7pm.
I stopped taking all my supplements two weeks ago as I knew the blood test was booked.
There’s quite a few of my blood test results said borderline and repeat the test but my GP had only repeated some of the kidney and liver function tests.
One of the liver tests was abnormal which I thought might be due to the statin I’d been taking since last August so I stopped it. It’s normal now. My cholesterol has always been fine but the statin was to protect my heart. I may be wrong but I couldn’t see the point in damaging my liver to help my heart and I’m on meds for that anyway.
I’ll get one the B12 supplements you’ve recommended. I did get one with drops but they’re not very nice so didn’t take them regularly.
