Hi, I posted earlier about Tirosint in Gel capsules possibly giving me a rash. I stopped taking them 4 weeks ago and the rash continues. Not as bad but still all down my legs and arms.

My question. Can it take so long to leave the body? Or am I blaming the wrong thing for my rash? Blood tests were done and nothing came from them! I don't think they checked Geletein though.

Any advice please would be great. I feel too tired to take the antihistamines. Excuse spelling!

I think an ongoing rash issue requires advice from a doctor.

This is from the NHS in Scotland (simply because I found this guidance there - the medical aspects apply wherever you are).

Rashes can vary from medically insignificant through to indication of severe disease. And at least some treatments are simply not available over the counter.

Not sure what you mean about being too tired to take antihistamines? Not all cause drowsiness.

We have seen a few people who seem intolerant to gelatin - though this is difficult because it can depend on whether it is bovine or porcine, and even where it came from.

This is a case of allergic reaction to gelatin - though in significantly different circumstances:

Specific IgE to gelatin as a cause of anaphylaxis to zoster vaccine.

Thank you for the reply. I have found every antihistamines they have given me has made me drowsy. But coming off the T4 probably did not help. Still taking the T3 though. I go back to the doctor tomorrow, so will review what you have posted re gelatin.

Thanks

I was wondering how easy you found it to get tirostint prescribed in the UK? I've recently been diagnosed and had an adverse reaction to levo.

Definately speak to your GP about the rash, as your body is reacting to something and it might not be the meds.

The doctor did about 10 different tests and none showed up positive. They didn’t do a test for gelatine which is what the pharmacy thinks could be the problem. I have been off the T4 for 2 months now and gradually the rash is subsiding. I may need to go back to Italy to get the T4 in liquid form, in plastic pods. I am still taking my T3, which has always been fine. I was in Ireland until recently and still with that doctor for my meds. I am not sure if I can get it now I am in the UK! I have an appointment booked for an endo now!
