It is not licensed in the UK. I don't recall anyone getting it prescribed here but I could have missed that. So the most likely circumstance seems to be someone buying their own from abroad. Be aware that even then it is expensive. Further, unlike tablets, or liquid levothyroxines, it is pretty much impossible to make small adjustments to doses. (You can buy 13 mcg dosages but they are pretty much the same cost as every other dosage! So it is really a cost issue.)

Having said all that, I have read of at least a couple of USA people who seem to find it the best thyroid treatment they have ever found.

Hi Rod, I need to speak with you of the board, as I presume you r are a male and wanted to speak with you with reagrdsto the issues I am having. With the regards to tyrosine I feel its a cheaper option to Martindales I know where I can get it from and just want to try it for a few months to see if it works. Do you take DHEA??

I live in Italy where Tirosint is prescribed to me in liquid form in mono dose sachets or available in bottles with a dropper in the usual doses (25 50 75 100 etc.) individual drops can be added if necessary to tweak a dose to 'perfection'. I get on much better with this as I seem to absorb it without the nasty side effects I was getting on 'eutirox' which is the tablet levothyroxine . Should I need it t3 is also available in the same liquid form ( but I don't).

Hi Have you tied Armlour o Erfa, ? They are both similar and contain natural T4 and T3. You would need a blood test fist, TSH, T4 and Free T3. I cannot take T4, synthetic, and have been on Armour many years, stable.. My Endo prescribes, GP will not, not on her "list!"

Hi I tried all the makes of Levo at lowest dose 25 mcg They are all synthetic. Some people try alternate days or just twicre a week with allergies. I have lots of allergies but in any case untreated thyroid disease make allergies worse. Catch 22.. Could not take it, caused me terrible problems with my heart. Then I went onto Armour, gradually increased doses. I started with 1 grain. At that stage, I do not think there was any T3,any way never heard of. I was seeing a private doctor, said bloods did not matter, how you felt. he gradually increased the dose, I just felt worse and worse, same symptoms ( this can happen with Hypo and Hyper), After 2 years on 7 armour, very ill by then. My heart problems escalated, told a lot of it due to the high dose of armour. Then I finally got a referral, long wished for, from my Cardio. Saw my present Endo, bloods etc, some were down to the associated things like vit D, hormonal, however, never been tested, she said I had been made very Hypo. Reduced to 2 armour and a little T3, 20mcg, dose gradually after a few weeks and spilt 12 hour apart. I was very quickly stable and have been ever since.

It is unusual to need T3 with the armour but I originally had treatment because my FT 3 was below range, before I saw the private doc. but GP would not refer me.I those days GP`s etc could test properly ie TSH, T4 and Free T3., but the private doc did not believe in it.

Now I keep close eye on my FT3 which needs to be high in range, never over, and the T4 which is in the top two thirds , as recommended. My TSH has always been a problem,as always been immeasurable. I have had lots of Pituitary gland tests, 24 hour urine collections, but always negative. It can signal a problem with the Pituitary gland. I have had suppressed TSH always, probably due to very complicated medical conditions, we do not know why. it is a problem with all my Cardios, but my Endo and I ensure that my bloods , T4 and FT3 are always OK. Strangely enough, if FT3 low as well as high, heart much worse. I never allow any one to do blood tests except my Endo, or I use Blue Horizon. You can legally refuse bloods.

This is because when I have them in hospital ( in a lot) all hell is let loose, lying in bed very ill not nice!

I hope that helps. Erfa too is similar to Armour, slightly less T3 in, some people prefer that. I have tried it but armour suits me better. The absorption is slightly different between the two. Both piggies! Gland extracts.

Best wishes,

Jackie

Hi Should have added, all T3, in armour etc or on its own does lower the TSH, why some docs so against it.
