TSH 48.90 help

morning everyone I’ve recently been on a new brand of T3 viatris I was on ( thybon henning before )for about 2 months was experiencing a lot of symptoms which became worse so had to see a doctor & do bloods high heart rate high blood pressure change in finger nails & hair very cold & everything felt out in my body ( I’ve had this twice before due to brand changes T3 Teva & T3 morning side but TSH was only 8 previously) can’t fault how quickly this all happened & last night received a phone call from doctors to say my TSH was really out of range it’s 48.90 my last blood test in September was TSH 0.18 after having trouble in our area with stock issues at chemists I’m feeling very worried the doctor has now put me on liothyronine 10 mg capsule’s has anyone had any experience with these & does anyone know which brands they could be please PM me if this post isn’t allowed thank u

TSH 48.90ml range (0.27 -4.2 )

T4 0.5 pmol range (12 - 24

T3 2.5 pmol range ( 3.1 - 6.8 )

I’ve just had 1st dose of Roma 10mg liothyronine capsule & currently waiting for a NSH referral to hospital I’ve also asked for a private appointment!!! Thank u to everyone who took the timeout to reply to me & once again I’ve got the fight to fight what’s right for my body I couldn’t do all this without u forever grateful cezza x

It could only be Roma capsules, you do have the option of opening them and mixing with a little water, they just taste like talc...I've been using the 5mcg for the last year but other than Tiromel I have nothing to compare them with as they are the only lactose free one I've been given

I felt pretty ropey when I first started on them as the endo had insisted I reduce both T4 and T3 but once I got back up to a decent level they seem to work ok 😏

I'd suggest cross checking the excipients on helvella fabulous Vade Mecum, as I have a vague memory that there is even some variation between Roma's 5 and 10mcg

The differences between the three Roma capsules (other than how much active ingredient they contain) is the addition of small amounts of an iron oxide and titanium dioxide to the capsules so as to make them visually distinctive.

Assuming you are getting these on prescription you should report them on a ‘yellow card (which is now an online form I think) so that they are withdrawn and other patients are not affected.

Yes they have been given via NHS prescription & I will fill out a yellow card today !!! I done this previously for teva & morning side T3

Read the Patient Information Leaflet for Roma capsules. It says you can, if needed, take the contents of the capsule out and take it with water. (Obviously a right pain if so not something to do if not necessary.)

Are you taking Levo and T3 or T3 only? What dose are you on?

Other than issues with change of brand it looks like you might need more T3 if your TSH previously was 0.18 and 8.

What supplements are you taking?

What are your latest results for ferritin, folate, B12 & D3?

I was on 30mg liothyronine viatris brand I was on 30mg thybon henning aday that’s when I was 0.18 & felt on top of the world . I had a brand change & I found a new brand viatris to try this is the result it clearly hasn’t got to my thyroid !!!! But was told by pharmacy at doctors surgery there wasn’t anything else for me to try so I knew I was having symptoms & tried desperately to stay on it & that is what happened how I got to TSH 48.90 but why didn’t it get to thyroid as I was originally told I cannot convert T4 to T3 so that’s why I’m on T3 since 2012 but this is the 3rd brand I’ve had trouble with ( but this one the worst it’s ever been ) but surely it should get straight to thyroid !!! I’m sorry for the long post x

But it isn't the thyroid that the T3 needs to get to! It is every cell of your body.

And it appears that either the product is sub-potent, or for some reason you are not absorbing it adequately.

The TSH being high implies it is not reaching the cells of the hypothalamus and/or pituitary.

30mcgs T3 is a low dose for someone on T3 monotherapy so I am thinking that a certain amount of having a high TSH is due to needing a dose increase.

An average dose for T3 only would be around 60mcgs so you're currently on half of that.

How are you doing with keeping vitamin levels up?

I have been on this dose for 12 years now & no issues other than Teva , morning side & viatris I’ve been perfect on mercury pharma & thybon henning

'Perfect' with a TSH of 0.18 for T3 monotherapy suggests that you are under replaced.

So what are your vitamin levels? Its essential to raise them to OPTIMAL for thyroid hormone to work well.

If anything......that's over replaced.......very low tsh

Not if taking T3. Can also be fine on Levo only if free hormones are within range.
