What is your thoughts on this??

I always do my thyroid blood tests by 9am with the standard protocol talked about here…. Im on 100mcg T4 and 10mcg T3 .

I fast for all my bloodwork no matter if it’s required or not UNLESS I know Im not having thyroid test… anyway When I followed the protocol here on my Thyroid test is shows my TSH below the range (not surprised) however when I did my last blood test I did take my T4 and T3 almost 4 hours prior to the blood test. I didn’t know my primary doctor was testing TSH so I didn’t delay my meds (she tested no other thyroid levels) anyway my TSH levels was higher.

My question is: wouldn’t my TSH be higher with me delaying my thyroid meds vs. not delaying my meds???

I hope this makes sense.

The timing of taking meds before a test affects the free thyroid hormone numbers FT4 & FT3, not TSH. It would take days and weeks for TSH to be affected especially if taking T3.

Is there something else that might have affected your results if not time of day - taking PPI meds, iron or maybe you need an increase?

Thanks … I realize the delaying meds would effect the FT3 and FT4 ….. it just seems odd that my TSH would rise when I took my meds not decrease… maybe it’s a fluke.

Are you supplementing vitamin levels to OPTIMAL? Low vitamins can affect TSH in some.

If you're not sure about the results of this test then retest a few weeks later using the usual protocol.

Im just curious why my TSH is lower when I delay of meds versus when I have taken my meds … probably irrelevant but Im thyroid-less.

Yes, Im vitamin D deficient and Anemic but I only just found these out at this last blood test.

I think if you get your vitamins to OPTIMAL then labs will be more stable. Theres a relationship between how we use thyroid hormone and vitamin status which is why we need optimal levels of vitamins.

Members here need to supplement vitamin levels continuously to achieve and maintain optimal levels so that their thyroid hormone works well.
