has anyone experienced bright yellow ( almost neon) urine from taking b supplements? Online it says that excess of b2 or b12 can cause this. I’m slight confused as I’ve only been taking 2 per day of Igennus b complex and 1 per day of the Solgar Methylcobalamin 1000µg. I didn’t think that these would cause an excess of vitamins in my body.

bright yellow urine
Angie10116, this is quite common and it's most likely to be caused by the B2 (riboflavin) in the Igennus B complex.
Usually nothing to worry about at all, but you could try dropping down to just one B complex capsule per day.
Same happened with me when taking 2 x Igennus B complex. I cut back to one. When I checked I found it was sufficient to bring my levels up to optimal. No point taking 2 if one will do.

Quote from the above link :
As a water-soluble vitamin, any riboflavin consumed in excess of nutritional requirements is not stored; it is either not absorbed or is absorbed and quickly excreted in urine, causing the urine to have a bright yellow tint.
Is this Safe? I shall cut down to 1 per day
Yes, riboflavin is safe.
The only thing that might worry me is if my kidneys failed and my body couldn't excrete any excess. But that applies to everything I supplement with or medicate with or swallow, not just riboflavin. Luckily for me my kidneys are still functioning quite well.
I tried Thorne basic b as advised but not only did it turn my urine yellow, it also made me sweat urine. A noticeable smell of urine seemed to linger around me especially in morning in bed - different beds- different places - even though I wasn’t incontinent - almost to point of buying a new mattress. I stopped the Thorne b and urine smell disappeared. I now just use Jarrows folate /vit b12.
Sounds like you were intolerant of the supplement or an element in it. Years ago I was once given valium ( I know don't go there...it was the age of them being fished out like sweeties!) I was intolerant of it. I could smell valium on my skin!! I stopped taking it smell went away. So glad.... It saved me becoming hooked on it!! I was only 18 and to this day I don't know why it was prescribed!
Probably because Doctors did not know you really needed thyroid medication! It took me 2 years coming off it ( as long as it took with me on it), to get it out of my system, then quite a few more years before they eventually put me on Levothyroxine.
I definately was not suffering with Hypothyroidism at that stage in my life. I went to see a GP Sue to very painful periods. Think he saw young student and assumed it was anxiety. It wasn't!! I only took two doses of valium and the smell was horrific. I'm so glad....as it made me stop them. Tbh. I'm so sorry it took so long to be able to come off Valium. Horrific. So addictive. Must've been very hard.
They did not have the smell effect on me, but did not really do what they were supposed to do. I knew I was free of them when I could at last cry over something sad, and my emotions were more natural to me. It was an awful time as my two youngest children were very young and I do not feel they had the best of me.
Just for interest, vitamin C supplements will also turn your wee neon yellow.
What an interesting thread, thanks for asking that question Angie10116 and everyone who answered!
Bright yellow urine is good. It is the B2, you know it is working. I have to high dose B2 every day, as I am taking thiamine B1.
Stop eating glow sticks, babe!
No, really - my pee could light up a glitterball, too. I take a multiB for balance and 1000 B12
I get yellow urine from taking turmeric and vid d
~Are you taking you B Vits with food? I break them down and take little an often with food so absorbed better otherwise they become what I call as "expensive urine" - colour is diluted & much improved ~
I used to work in Holland and Barrett. When we did the training they said B2 Riboflavin will turn your pee yellow. I have a slow release B complex from Solgar and it takes longer and stays in your body longer but I still get yellow pee as its cause by Riboflavin. Its totally normal and not necessarily because you've had to much. It's what B2 does.
