I'm thinking low Vit D, B6 and B12 how are her iron levels? Calcium too but possibly less likely to have been tested?

How long has she had it, has she any other symptoms apart from vertigo? Nausea, loss of balance, pain in ears, tinnitus or hearing loss? Could be anything from Labrynthitis, BPPV, vestibular migraines, even certain drugs can cause vertigo. Is your sister hyper/ hypothyroid?

Has she tried doing the Epley manoeuvre.

Are her thyroid levels good? I had vertigo really bad, vomiting at the slightest movement, had to crawl to the bathroom. Prochlorperazine worked for me. Once tsh back to being under 1 the vertigo hasn't returned.

I am just getting over another bout of vertigo, I am sure vitamin/thyroid levels may have been out of kilter. However, I found relief doing certain exercises given to me by the Dizzy/Balance Clinic here in Essex, also am seeing a Homeopath. I would avoid pharmaceutical drugs, they don't get to the root of the problem and some have nasty side affects. Good luck!

I assume your sister has had her ears checked. Dizziness xan be a side effect of excessive ear wax.

I totally agree with Marymary7. Look up the Epley manoeuvre online and get someone to help you / your sister. (don't worry about the spelling!)

Inside your ear there are canals which help with balance. Some debris can get into the wrong part of the canals. The manoeuvre can gently encourage the debris to move to a different part of the canals where it doesn't affect balance.

Look it up online where you will find all sorts of useful info.

I've used it effectively.

Last time I had it I did these exercises which worked great, got rid of it. Now I’m getting over the Flu I’ve got it again so will repeat them.

Either that or the Epley manoeuvre are well worth trying.

I've always felt that flu brings back all your previous aches and pains.

My chiropractor helps me with vertigo. Once he does the Eply maneuver, it works for me. I have tried it myself at home, with success but it comes back periodically. It may go away for a long time but if I sleep wrong on a bad pillow it comes back. I have had to pull off the road driving it was so bad. Good luck, it's usually caused, with me, when the ears fluids get out if alignment and it always seems to be my left side but can be either.

My sister suffered for years with vertigo. I showed her some ear oil I had found and she used a drop in each ear every day and no longer has episodes. She was in shock something so simple helped her after all these years.

I had very bad dizziness and sought help on here. It was strongly advised I should up my B vitamins and it’s helped hugely. I also had tingling in my legs. Does your sister have any other symptoms?

I do yoga and that helped enormously too.

I get terrible vertigo if my thyroid hormone levels drop and it is quickly fixed by taking some T3. Is your sister hypothyroid. Does she have any recent blood results to share?

Was this a gradual thing or did it come on suddenly? I ask as I had a vestibular disorder 20 years ago and I lost my sense of balance. It happened over an afternoon and evening and it was very scary as I didn't know what was wrong.

It started with feeling a bit sick and dizzy - hunger I thought. But this got worse by evening, by which time I was very dizzy. By morning the entire room was spinning and I was driven to my sister's house 10 mins away. That journey took a very long time as I kept throwing up with the movement. I could barely walk.

I saw a specialist and had audiometric tests done, which confirmed a problem in the inner ear. I was told I had to relearn how to balance and was given head movement exercises to do, which I built up gradually. It took 6 months and a lot of determination and discipline to regain my balance completely.

It could be a lot of things as everyone mentioned but another thing to consider is sex hormones as often it's a symptom in peri and menopause.

Hi……. I have had Vertigo for going on two years, ask your sisters GP to prescribe BETAHISTINE 16mg tablets….. they were recently prescribed for me a month ago, and I’ve only had one vertigo bout since then….. when your sister has a bout of vertigo, someone needs to help her into bed, and cover her head with the bedclothes to cut out the light.

Good luck.
