You’re currently under medicated for thyroid and now increasing levothyroxine to 125mcg daily

TSH 5.24 mIU/L (.4 - 4) 134.4%

Free T4 (fT4) 14.5 pmol/L (9 - 25) 34.4%

Free T3 (fT3) 4.3 pmol/L (3.5 - 6.5) 26.7%

Aiming for both Ft4 and Ft3 at least 60% through range

Meanwhile your B12 was far too low, likely exacerbated by recent anaesthetic

What vitamin supplements are you taking

Suggest you start on separate B12 initially and add a separate Vitamin B complex after 10-14 days

Low B12 can make you feel very dizzy…..a bit like walking on small rocking boat

Low B12 symptoms

With serum B12 result below 500, (Or active B12 below 70) recommended to be taking a separate B12 supplement and a week later add a separate vitamin B Complex

Then once your serum B12 is over 500 (or Active B12 level has reached 70), you may be able to reduce then stop the B12 and just carry on with the B Complex.

If Vegetarian or vegan likely to need ongoing separate B12 few times a week

Interesting that in this research B12 below 400 is considered inadequate

Low folate

supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in (not folic acid)

This can help keep all B vitamins in balance and will help improve B12 levels too

Difference between folate and folic acid

Many Hashimoto’s patients have MTHFR gene variation and can have trouble processing folic acid.

B vitamins best taken after breakfast

Thorne Basic B recommended vitamin B complex that contains folate, but they are large capsules. (You can tip powder out if can’t swallow capsule)

Thorne currently difficult to find at reasonable price, should be around £20-£25. iherb.com often have in stock. Or try ebay

Other options

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu....

Igennus B complex popular option too. Nice small tablets. Most people only find they need one per day. But a few people find it’s not high enough dose

IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results

endocrinenews.endocrine.org...

In week before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate folate supplement (eg Jarrow methyl folate 400mcg) and continue separate B12

Retest vitamin D now

You may/should see improvement/reduction in ectopic beats as your thyroid and vitamin levels improve

What was last vitamin D test result

Aiming for vitamin D at least over 80nmol (40ng/mL)

Vitamin D mouth spray by Better You is very effective as it avoids poor gut function.

There’s a version made that also contains vitamin K2 Mk7.

One spray = 1000iu

It’s trial and error what dose we need, with thyroid issues we frequently need higher dose than average

Are you currently taking any magnesium supplement?

Web links about taking important cofactors - magnesium and Vit K2-MK7

Magnesium best taken in the afternoon or evening, but must be four hours away from levothyroxine

With Thalassemia, presumably you should be getting folate levels tested regularly

I was diagnosed with VM last year. I have a history of "normal" migraines since my teenage years. Basically in a nutshell I had a migraine one day, the next day I started experiencing feeling off balance, like walking on a trampoline, visual vertigo, like fast moving tv programmes or computer screens, bright or flashing lights, were a nightmare for me. I also experienced neck pain and pressure.

I never had true vertigo, like I was spinning or the world was spinning, it was more feeling a bit drunk and clumsy. It was better sitting or laying down, worse on standing or walking. VM can often follow on during periods of intense stress. Do you have a history or family history of migraine?

Of course there are other causes of vertigo, anxiety can exacerbate it, a virus that affects the ears like Labrynthitis or vestibular neuritis can be very disabling, BPPV is the most common cause, caused by crystals in the ear canal becoming displaced. Its very easily treated either by GP or at home, by doing the Epley manouvre.

I saw both ENT and Neurology consultants to get my diagnosis. Many GP's aren't very aware of VM as its considered quite specialist. I tried several preventative medications with no success but eventually discovered Venlafaxine which has worked well for me.

Batty1 in reply to Contra21

Sadly I developed Psoriatic Arthritis after my Thyroidectomy so walking isn’t that easy for me anymore and with my wonky balance it’s definitely not safe … I stationary bike for 2 hours a day 7 days a week.

Arthritis caused by no thyroid?

Batty1 profile image
Batty1 in reply to Contra21

My Rheumatologist believes the combination of the thyroidectomy and the medication I was on to treat my psoriasis that I was made to stop taking caused my Psoriatic Arthritis flare …. Prior to my Thyroidectomy I did not suffer any type of joint issues actually I was super fit and extremely active and then my life and health took a nose dive I spent almost 2 years house bound and bed ridden from this psoriatic arthritis flare…. Now I can’t walk in the dark.. annoying!
